Cross Country Primed for Gans Creek Classic

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Cross Country will return home to the Gans Creek Cross Country Course on Friday morning to host the Gans Creek Classic.

The men's team will run the 8k race at 9 a.m. The women's team will follow with a 6k race at 9:45 a.m.

The Tigers will host 25 men's teams and 26 women's teams in Mizzou's second competition at Gans Creek this season.

Both the men's and women's teams look to follow up the success from the John McNichols Invitational on Sept. 17. The men's squad earned a sixth-place standing while the women notched a fourth-place finish in Terre Haute, Ind.

After forgoing the John McNichols Invitational, Marquette Hanson (Warrensburg, Mo.) returns to the field as the team's top finisher from the Mizzou XC Opener earlier in the month. Hanson finished the Sept. 1 race in 15th place to power the Tigers to a third-place finish as a team.

The men's team also seeks strong performances from Jacob Ridderhoff (Woodridge, Ill.) and Blake Morris (Cape Girardeau, Mo.), who paced the Tigers with a pair of top-30 finishes at the John McNichols Invitational.

The women's team will feature four runners who earned a spot in the top 25 last meet. Isabelle Christiansen (Oswego, Ill.), Ginger Murnieks (Lee's Summit, Mo.), Jenna Schwartz (Waterloo, Ill.) and Mikayla Reed (Washington, Mo.) look to continue their recent success.
