COLUMBIA, Mo. – In a battle of Tigers, No. 18/20 Mizzou Softball was victorious over the visiting No. 24/25 Auburn Tigers in extra innings by a score of 2-1. Pitchers Jordan Weber and Emma Nichols led the way for Mizzou. Weber set a new career-high with 13 strikeouts in only six innings of work.
Far from the typical offensive output for Missouri, Hatti Moore led the way with her fourth home run of the week and 12th of the season. Mizzou walked it off in the bottom of the ninth inning on a throwing error by the Auburn pitcher, allowing Casidy Chaumont to score from third.
Through the first three innings, neither team was able to get much going. The first six outs that Jordan Weber recorded were by virtue of the strikeout.
Each team was able to get on the board in the fourth inning. Auburn struck first with a solo blast to left, taking a 1-0 lead. Jordan Weber tied her previous career-high with nine strikeouts after only 3.1 innings pitched.
In the bottom of the fourth, Hatti Moore continued her impressive week with her fourth homer in three games. The senior blasted a solo shot to left to tie the game at one apiece.
Missouri was able to get runners in scoring position in the fifth and seventh innings, but no runs came around to score. Auburn got a runner to second in the seventh, but the visiting Tigers could not score.
Emma Nichols entered to start the seventh inning and struck out three in the inning. In total, Mizzou pitchers struck out 17 Auburn batters on the day.
TURNING POINT
Mizzou was nearly able to break through in the eighth inning. After a Hatti Moore single to left and a Kimberly Wert walk, Jenna Laird came to the plate with two outs and drove a ball down the left field line that was caught at the warning track.
After a perfect inning from Emma Nichols, Casidy Chaumont got the Tigers started with a one-out double into the right-center gap. Chaumont advanced to third on a fly out after an Abby George walk. With two outs, Cayla Kessinger bounced a ball in between the pitcher and first base and the Auburn pitcher threw it too high to first, allowing Chaumont to score and walk it off for Mizzou.
TOP TIGERS
Jordan Weber had a career day in the circle. The sophomore went six innings with a career-high 13 strikeouts and one earned run. Of the five hits that she allowed, only one left the infield.
