No. 18/20 Mizzou Softball Takes on No. 24/25 Auburn in SEC Home Opener

COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 18/20 Mizzou Softball (22-6, 1-2 SEC) will take on No. 24/25 Auburn (18-6, 0-3 SEC) in a Top-25 matchup. It will be Mizzou's first home SEC series of the 2021 season.
Auburn will be the first ranked opponent that the Mizzou Tigers have faced in Mid-Missouri. Mizzou took on Western Illinois in a doubleheader on Wednesday, winning each game by scores of 10-0 and 6-0.
Hatti Moore and Brooke Wilmes led the way offensively for Mizzou. Moore smashed three home runs in the two games, bringing her season total to a career-high 11 and taking the team lead. Moore also joined the Top-10 of the Mizzou home run list.
In the opener, Brooke Wilmes set a new career-high with six RBIs. Additionally, the senior smacked two doubles, scored two runs, stole a base, and drove a grand slam over the right-center wall to give Mizzou the walkoff victory.
In the circle, Mizzou had two shutout performances. In the opener, Laurin Krings went five innings with a career-high 10 strikeouts. The freshman only allowed two hits in the contest. In the second game, Megan Schumacher delivered a seven-inning complete game shutout for the first time in her career. Schumacher also tied her previous career-high of six strikeouts.
The all-time series between Mizzou and Auburn is tied at eight games apiece. Mizzou won the last two meetings in Columbia before the third game of the series was canceled.
