Cox Shines on Senior Night as @MizzouWrestling Falls to UNI, 25-10

Cox recorded his 20th career technical fall in the dual

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Emotions were high at the Hearnes Center Sunday afternoon as No. 7 Mizzou Wrestling honored its seven seniors prior to its dual against the No. 19 Northern Iowa. The Panthers' (11-3, 8-0 MAC) efforts proved to be too much for the Tigers (10-4, 7-1 MAC), as Northern Iowa pulled the upset, 25-10.

With this loss, Mizzou snaps a 28 Mid-American Conference Dual winning streak that dates back to the 2013-14 season.

Northern Iowa jumped out to a 9-0 lead following wins to start the dual at heavyweight, 125 pounds and 133 pounds. The Tigers first got on the scoreboard after an 8-4 win at 141 pounds from redshirt freshman 141-pounder Jaydin Eierman (Columbia, Mo.). Eierman upended Jake Hodges by scoring two takedowns in the first period, and another in the third.

After another Panther win at 149 pounds, redshirt junior 157-pounder Joey Lavallee (Reno, Nev.) earned the second win of the day for the Tigers, flying past Paden Moore. Lavallee landed two quick takedowns in the first period. Mizzou was deducted a team point after the second team warning during an injury timeout to attend to Lavallee. However, Lavallee stuck out the match, earning an 8-3 victory over Moore.

Senior 197-pounder J'den Cox (Columbia, MO) closed out the dual for the Tigers, making the most of his senior night. A quick takedown against Jacob Holschag was quickly followed by two end-of-period four point near-falls. Cox dominated on all fronts, landing yet another four point near-fall in the third period, winning by technical fall, 17-1. With his 20th career technical fall, Cox recorded win No. 127 in the dual, which ranks second and fifth all-time in program history, respectively.

Mizzou will next face SIU Edwardsville on Wednesday, Feb. 15. The match will begin off at 4:45 p.m. CT at the Hearnes Center, and will be streamed on Mizzou Network.
