
Hanson Leads Cross Country In The NCAA Midwest Regional Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri Cross Country team fought through chilly conditions at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships to take top-15 finishes, as the women's squad earned a ninth-place result and the men's team finished 14th on Friday morning at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course.
Marquette Hanson (Warrensburg, Mo.) put himself in position to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships with his performance, while Reilly Revord (Hinsdale, Ill.) led the way for a top-10 women's team performance.
The women's team collected 349 points in its 6k effort, while the men finished its 10k race with 364 points.
Olivia Howell of Illinois crossed the line in 20:02.9 to claim first place in the 6k race, while Oklahoma State's Isai Rodriguez topped the podium in the 10k race with a time of 29:40.1.
Oklahoma State and Northwestern automatically qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships for the women's, while Tulsa and Oklahoma State were the automatic qualifiers from the men's side.
TOP TIGERS
- Revord paced the Tigers for the first time this season, finishing 50th in the 6k race with a time of 21:06.6. The senior closed out the race strong by gaining 15 spots over the final 2000m.
- Isabelle Christiansen (Oswego, Ill.) followed in 57th place (21:15.7) to wrap up her strong sophomore campaign.
- Allison Newman (Germantown, Tenn.) and Jenna Schwartz (Waterloo, Ill.) finished side-by-side to earn 71st and 72nd place, respectively. Newman's performance in the race set a personal record of 21:30.9.
- Kaia Downs (Sioux City, Iowa) overtook nine runners in the final 1000m to crack the top 100 at 99th place to round out Mizzou's top five.
- Hanson continued his stalwart senior season by finishing 11th in the men's 10k. His result was Mizzou's best regional placement since Thomas George finished second in 2019, while his time of 29:48.9 was the program's best since George ran the 2017 Midwest Regional in 29:32.5.
- Fresh off earning SEC All-Freshman Team honors, Drew Rogers (Herscher, Ill.) followed behind Hanson in 75th with a time of 30:58.5. Blake Morris (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) was the third Tiger to cross in 31:09.5 to finish in 89th place. Dan Brookling (Arborfield Cross, England) and Jack Warner (Kansas City, Mo.) each finished the race strong by gaining 11 spots apiece to crack the top 100 in 93rd and 96th, respectively.

Hanson will find out whether he will advance as an at-large runner for the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships on the DI Cross Country Selection Show on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 4 p.m. The show will air on NCAA.com.
If selected, Hanson will compete for an individual national championship at the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday, Nov. 19 at Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla. The race will be streamed live on ESPNU at 9 a.m.
