THE MATCHUP
- After its bye week, Mizzou Women's Basketball returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 26 when the Tigers head to College Station to face No. 15 Texas A&M. Tipoff from Reed Arena is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT on SEC Network + with Mike Wright and Tap Bentz on the call. Mizzou is coming off its first road victory of the season, a 71-57 win over Ole Miss on Jan. 19, while Texas A&M has won its last two contests and enters the game ranked 15th in both the AP Top-25 and USA Today Coaches Poll. Sunday's game will serve as Texas A&M's We Back Pat game, recognizing the legendary career of Tennessee coach Pat Summitt.
THE SERIES
- Old Big 12 foes Mizzou and Texas A&M will play for the 29th time on Sunday, as the Aggies hold a 18-10 advantage between the two programs. Mizzou is 2-10 all-time in College Station, and has not won in Reed Arena since Feb. 26, 2015 when the Tigers won 70-69. In the last meeting between the two schools, Mizzou beat No. 16 Texas A&M, 70-65, in overtime at Mizzou Arena on Feb. 7, 2019.
ELITE FRESHMEN DUO
- Mizzou's elite freshmen duo of guard Aijha Blackwell and forward Hayley Frank have lived up to their billing so far this season, as they both currently rank among the top-30 in scoring in the SEC. Blackwell's scoring average of 12.7 points per game ranks fifth among SEC freshmen and 24th overall, while Frank's mark of 12.0 points per game ranks seventh among SEC freshmen and 30th overall.
- In program history, only seven freshmen have ever averaged double figures for the Tigers, and never has there been more than one in a single season. Currently, the duo's scoring averages ranks fifth and sixth all-time among Mizzou freshmen.
THREE-POINT SHOOTING DEPTH
- For years, a staple of the Mizzou offense has been its ability to shoot the deep ball. That skill has not changed this season, as Mizzou's currently ranks in the SEC's top-four and the nation's top-60 in three-pointers made (145 - third in SEC, 35th nationally), three-pointers made per game (7.6 - third in SEC, 55th nationally) and three-point percentage (35.0 percent - fourth in SEC, 48th nationally).
- Individually, five Tigers are shooting better than 35 percent from deep and seven have made 13 or more shots from three.
- Senior guard Jordan Chavis leads the team in both categories with 33 threes and a 44.0 percent (33-of-75) success rate from deep. Chavis' team-leading 1.7 three-pointers made per game ranks eighth in the SEC.
BLACKWELL EMERGES
- Mizzou freshman guard Aijha Blackwell has settled into her own during her freshman campaign, scoring in double figures in 10 of her last 12 games. During the 12 game stretch, Blackwell is averaging 14.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
- Blackwell, the No. 9-ranked recruit in the Class of 2019, has posted three 20-point games this season, becoming the third freshman in program history to record three or more 20-point games, joining Julie Helm (11, 1996-97) and Sophie Cunningham (10, 2015-16).
- Blackwell scored 21 points against Nebraska (Nov. 10) and against Illinois (Dec. 20). Her 21 points against the Huskers was the most points by a Mizzou freshman since Sophie Cunningham scored 23 against Texas in the 2016 NCAA Tournament (3/21/16). She also posted 20 points to lead Mizzou to a 71-57 road win over Ole Miss (Jan. 19).
- Blackwell was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Dec. 10 after averaging 14.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game against Saint Louis (Dec. 5) and Kansas City (Dec. 8). The weekly conference honor is the first of Blackwell's career, and the first of the year for Mizzou.
- Blackwell posted her first career double-double in Mizzou's win against LSU, scoring 15 points and grabbing a career-high 11 rebounds.
- Blackwell has scored eight or more points in all but two games this season, and has grabbed five or more rebounds in 15 contests. She is currently leads Mizzou in scoring (12.7 ppg) and assists (2.6 apg), and is averaging 5.7 rebounds per game.
SENIOR DUO STEPPING UP ON DEFENSE
- Mizzou seniors Hannah Schuchts and Jordan Chavis have stepped up for Mizzou on the defensive end of the floor this season, leading the team in blocks and steals, respectively.
- Schuchts leads the team in blocks by a wide-margin with 38, and ranks in Mizzou's top-10 all-time in program history at eighth with 118 career blocks. Schuchts' senior mark of 38 blocks already ranks ninth all-time among Mizzou seniors. The Tiger senior has recorded multiple blocks in 13 games this season, and three or more blocks in four games. Schuchts produced two or more blocks in six consecutive games from Dec. 5 to Jan. 2, the longest streak of her career. Against South Dakota (Nov. 21), Schuchts matched a career-high with five blocks, the second time in her career she has hit that mark.
- With 21 steals this season, Chavis has already surpassed her mark of 14 steals last season, and has set her career-best mark for a single season. Chavis grabbed a career-high six steals against Kansas City (Dec. 8), the most steals by a Tiger since Sierra Michaelis grabbed nine steals against Wichita State on Dec. 9, 2016.
