Dowell Scores 33, Women's Basketball Drops Senior Night Contest to No. 7 Oklahoma

COLUMBIA Mo. – Mizzou women's basketball fell short 84-78 against No. 7 Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon at Mizzou Arena.
Junior guard Shannon Dowell notched a double-double with a season-high 33 points and 10 rebounds.
Senior forward Jordana Reisma secured 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
Junior guard Grace Slaughter added 15 points and five boards.
A couple of early triples by senior guard Saniah Tyler gave the Tigers an early offensive spark, but Oklahoma (23-6, 11-5 SEC) found itself with an early lead in the opening minutes of the contest.
Dowell got hot down the stretch as she recorded six points in the final three minutes of the first quarter. Despite her efforts, Mizzou fell behind 25-16 at the end of the first.
The Tigers got into an offensive rhythm early in the second quarter with an 8-2 run, capped by a 3-pointer from Dowell, which cut the Sooner lead to five.
The offensive prowess continued at the conclusion of the second quarter for Missouri. A pair of and-1s by senior guard Jayla Smith and Dowell limited the OU lead to 40-34 going into the break.
Coming out of the half, Missouri quickly got back into its offensive groove. A 9-2 scoring run headlined by another and-1 by Dowell and a triple by sophomore guard Chloe Sotell cut the Sooner lead to 46-43 with six minutes left in the third.
OU had a swift response and took a 68-50 lead into the final quarter.
Dowell continued her impressive afternoon with three quick buckets in the fourth quarter to help contribute to an 11-2 run that cut the Sooner lead to nine with six minutes left in the contest.
The Tigers kept clawing offensively, having made four straight field goal attempts down the final stretch of the contest through more crucial layups by Dowell.
Reisma capped the game with a career-high third triple of the afternoon, but Oklahoma held its lead to secure the victory.

Mizzou will face Alabama at 7:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday in the first round of the SEC Tournament. The tournament will be held at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, S.C. The contest will be broadcast on the SEC Network and the Tiger Radio Network.
