Slaughter Moves Up All-Time Scoring List, Women's Basketball Defeats Seton Hall in WBIT Opening Round

South Orange, N.J. – Mizzou women's basketball defeated Seton Hall 67-57 in the first round of the Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament on Thursday night at Walsh Gymnasium.
Junior guard Grace Slaughter led Mizzou with a double-double performance of 22 points and 10 rebounds. It marked the eighth double-double of the season for the junior.
With the point total, Slaughter passed Jordan Frericks (2013-18) for 12th on the program's all-time scoring list. In addition, the junior has now totaled the seventh most points (618) in a single-season passing Amanda Lassiter (2000-01).
Senior forward Jordana Reisma tallied 17 points and four boards in 35 minutes of action.
Junior guard Shannon Dowell notched nine points and eight rebounds and five assists.
On the Tigers' first possession, junior guard Abbey Schrecke drove the baseline and found sophomore guard Chloe Sotell in the corner for a triple to open the scoring.
Minutes later, Slaughter buried her first triple of the contest to give Mizzou a one point advantage. The basket from long range was a part of the junior's seven in the frame. The teams exchanged baskets in the final minute as Seton Hall held a narrow 17-14 lead after one.
Mizzou penetrated the Seton Hall defense early in the second as a pair of layups by Slaughter and Schreacke held the Pirates advantage to one. Reisma tallied a pair of baskets in the paint before the half, but Seton Hall took a 29-27 lead into the break.
Midday through the third quarter, Reisma stepped beyond the arc and knocked down a triple from the left wing to knot the score at 42-42.
Slaughter cashed in from deep and gave Mizzou a one-point lead with under two minutes remaining in the period. Seton Hall responded and took a four-point lead, but Resima recorded a layup and Dowell raced the floor to beat the buzzer as the quarter closed with the score even at 52-52.
Spearheaded by Slaughter and Reisma, the Tigers began the fourth on an 11-2. Reisma drove to the paint for a pair of buckets which were followed by a clutch 3-pointer from Slaughter. In total, Mizzou limited the Pirates to just five points in the fourth quarter to pull away and claim the victory.
The Tigers shot 48 percent from the floor while holding Seton Hall to just 28 percent on their attempts.
The win marked the first postseason victory for the Tigers since 2023.
UP NEXT
Mizzou will face the winner of BYU and Alabama A&M in the second round of the WBIT. With a BYU win, the Tigers would play in Provo, Utah on Monday. With an Alabama A&M win, Mizzou would face the Bulldogs on Sunday in Mizzou Arena.
