Slaughter Moves Up All-Time Scoring List, Women's Basketball Falls at No. 3 South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Mizzou women's basketball was defeated 112-71 by No. 3 South Carolina on Thursday night at Colonial Life Arena.
Junior guard Grace Slaughter scored a team-high 21 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists. With a first-quarter basket, Slaughter passed Morgan Eye (2011-15) to move into 15th place on Mizzou's (16-14, 4-11 SEC) all-time scoring list.
Redshirt senior Jayla Smith totaled 16 points and five boards.
Junior guard Shannon Dowell contributed 11 points, five rebounds and dished a pair of assists.
Junior guard Abbey Schreacke tallied 10 points and two boards.
Slaughter powered Mizzou's early offense with a pair of triples, but South Carolina (28-2, 14-1 SEC) built a lead in the opening minutes of the contest.
Slaughter continued to score down the heart of the frame as she totaled 12 of her final point tally in the quarter. Despite the effort, the Gamecocks held a 33-13 lead at the end of the first.
Two minutes into the second quarter, Smith connected on a 3-pointer. Moments later, the redshirt senior shook her defender and found space in the lane for a layup. In total, Smith tallied seven in the frame.
Dowell added six in the period and freshman Reka Toman buried a corner triple in the closing minutes of the quarter. As the teams headed to the locker rooms, South Carolina led 57-32.
Schreacke recorded a trio of 3-pointers following the break and Slaughter lined up another make from long range as the Tigers fought to regain footing in the contest.
Powered by seven triples, Mizzou exchanged baskets with the hosts throughout the third. Smith beat the buzzer with a triple as the Tigers outscored Gamecocks 31-28 in the frame. The quarter scoring total was the most points surrendered by South Carolina this season.
The Gamecocks entered the fourth with an 85-63 advantage. In the fourth, they extended the lead and claimed the victory.

Mizzou returns home to close out the regular season at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mizzou Arena. The contest will be broadcast on SECN+ and the Tiger Radio Network.
