Mizzou has three score in double figures, including Blackwell with 18
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Mizzou Women's Basketball (5-15, 2-5 SEC) fell to No. 15 Texas A&M (17-3, 5-2 SEC), 72-53, on Sunday afternoon at Reed Arena. The Tigers had three players score in double figures in the game, led by freshman guard Aijha Blackwell (Berkeley, Mo.) with 18 points.
TURNING POINT
Mizzou fought tough with the top-25-ranked Aggies in the first half, pulling to within three points at 17-14 early in the game's second frame, but Texas A&M was able to outscore the Tigers 22-11 in the third quarter to pull away. The Aggies' 11-point halftime lead became 22 points by the end of the third quarter, and Mizzou was unable to pull closer than 16 points in the fourth quarter.
TOP TIGERS
- Blackwell led the Tigers in scoring for the seventh time this season with 18 points while adding a team-high seven rebounds and two assists.
- Senior guard Jordan Chavis (Lexington, N.C.) scored 12 points and match a season-high with four three-pointers made.
- Freshman forward Hayley Frank (Strafford, Mo.) scored 10 points and had five rebounds in the game.
NOTES
- Mizzou shot 90.0 percent from the free throw line (9-of-10), its second-best shooting performance of the season, only traling the 93.8 percent performance (15-of-16) against Saint Louis (Dec. 5).
- Mizzou's success from the charity stripe marked the 10th time this season the Tigers have shot 75 percent or better from the free throw line.
- With a team-high 18 points, Blackwell continued her impressive scoring streak, as she has now scored in double figures in four consecutive contests and in 11 of the last 13 games. In the 13-game strech, Blackwell is averaging 15.0 points per game.
- Blackwell's scoring-output marks the seventh time she has been Mizzou's leading scorer this season, is her 13th game scoring double figures and her eighth time scoring 15+.
- The Tiger freshman also added seven rebounds in the game, the 16th time this season she has grabbed at least five rebounds.
- Chavis matched a season-high with four three-pointers and moved up to No. 8 on Mizzou's all-time three-pointers made list with 133, passing Maddie Stock (131, 2012-16). It also marked the 13th time this season and the 36th time in her career she has made multiple threes in a game.
- Chavis' 12 points marked the seventh time this season and the 20th time this season she has scored in double figures.
- Frank recorded her 13th game in double figures with 10 points and her eighth game with multiple made three-pointers.
- Frank also grabbed five rebounds in the game, her eighth game this season with five or more rebounds.
- Redshirt senior forward Hannah Schuchts (Talahassee, Fla.) set a new career-high with five assists in the game.
- Schuchts also blocked two shots in the game, the 14th time this season and the 32nd time in her career she has recorded multiple blocks.
- With her two blocks, Schuchts moved to sole possession of eight-place on Mizzou's career blocks list with 120, passing Renee Kelly (118, 1983-87).
- Senior guard Amber Smith (Shreveport, La.) recorded five rebounds in the game, the 11th time this season and 58th time in her career she has grabbed at least five rebounds.
