No. 6 @MizzouWrestling Shuts Out Kent State, 44-0, to Extend Win Streak to 27

Erneste, Eierman pick up pins as Tigers earn bonus points in seven of 10 bouts

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – No. 6 Mizzou Wrestling extended its winning streak to 27 straight dual wins after downing MAC foe Kent State, 44-0, Saturday (Dec. 29) in the first of four duals that Mizzou will compete in at the South Beach Duals this weekend. Mizzou has won 12 straight MAC duals as part of its 27-match win streak.

Mizzou won all 10 weight classes Saturday morning, earning its second shutout win of the season and first since a 48-0 dismantling of SIU-Edwardsville on Dec. 9. The Tigers turned in bonus-point wins in seven of the 10 bouts, earning a pair of falls, three technical falls and two major decisions. John Erneste and Jaydin Eierman each tallied pins for the Tigers.

RS freshman Dack Punke got things started at 125. He held a 4-3 lead heading into the third period, but quickly tallied an escape and takedown as he earned the 8-4 decision, giving Mizzou the early 3-0 lead. Ninth-ranked Erneste then picked up his fourth fall of the season, pinning Tim Rooney in 3:19. Erneste improved to 9-1 on the year with the win and the pin extended Mizzou's lead to 9-0.

At 141 pounds, third-ranked Eierman made it back-to-back pins for Mizzou as he put Kent State's Cory Simpson on his back in 3:47, extending Mizzou's advantage to 15-0. It was Eierman's sixth pin of the season as he improved to 11-1.

Freshman Brock Mauller earned a 5-2 decision before the Tigers put together three consecutive technical falls from freshman 157-pounder Jarrett Jacques, redshirt junior 165-pounder No. 13 Connor Flynn and fourth-ranked 174 pounder Daniel Lewis. Those three wins extended the lead to 33-0. The three combined to outscore Kent State, 54-4, over those three bouts.

Dylan Wisman then extended his personal winning streak to nine straight with a 14-5 major decision, extending Mizzou's lead to 37-0. Wyatt Koelling earned an 8-1 decision at 197 and Zach Elam earned a 9-1 major decision at heavyweight to close the dual.
