Mizzou Women's Basketball returns home riding a five-game win streak and now competes in the Big 12/SEC Challenge for the first time since joining the SEC. The Tigers face Kansas State on Thursday at Mizzou Arena. Tip is slated for 8 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.
Mizzou Set to Compete in Big 12/SEC Challenge
- This is the first regular season game Mizzou has played against a former Big 12 foe since joining the Southeastern Conference.
- After an impressive victory over No. 21 California, Mizzou now has 53 wins in program history over AP Top 25 teams. The Tigers are 93-41 as a ranked team. It was Mizzou's first win over a Top 25 opponent in nonconference play since beating No. 12 Georgetown, 54-45, on Nov. 26, 2010.
- The Tigers are riding a five-game win streak, their third win streak of five or more games since the beginning of the 2016-17 campaign. A sixth win Thursday would give Mizzou its first six-game win streak since securing 13 straight victories from Nov. 13, 2015 to Jan. 29, 2015.
- With a win over Wright State in its home opener, Mizzou has now won 47 consecutive nonconference regular season home games, with the last loss coming to Northwestern on Dec. 3, 2011. The Tigers have won 33 consecutive nonconference games at Mizzou Arena, falling to Eastern Illinois in the Postseason WNIT on March 20, 2013.
- The Tigers are 29-4 over their last 33 games at Mizzou Arena.
- Reshirt junior Lauren Aldridge ranks second in the SEC in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.4) and fourth in minutes played (33.8).
- With 1,096 points and counting, junior Sophie Cunningham ranks 16th in the nation in career points among active juniors.
- Cunningham has reach double figures in 17 consecutive games dating back to last season.
- Cunningham is the only player in the SEC shooting at least 50 percent from 3-point range, 80 percent from the free throw line and 50 percent from the field.
- Junior Cierra Porter is grabbing a team-high 11.0 rebounds per game, which ranks third in the SEC, and 8.3 defensive rebounds per game. She's also averaging 11.0 points per game, making her one of six players in the league averaging a double-double. Only four players in the history of Mizzou's program have averaged a double-double over a full season with the most recent player being Kesha Bonds in 1997-98. Her 11.0 rebounds per game currently ranks second all-time in program history in a single season.
- Her 50 total defensive rebounds rank third in the nation among players who have appeared in six games or less.
- In Mizzou's win over Missouri State, Smith matched her career high with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting in 29 minutes.
- Smith followed with 11 points at No. 21 California, making all three of her 3-point attempts.
- She has now reached double figures seven times in her career. Mizzou is 7-0 in those contests.
- Sophomore Jordan Chavis has proven to be a vital member of Mizzou's backcourt this season, averaging 6.3 points and 1.5 assists through the first six games.
- Despite being one of Mizzou's primary ballhandlers, Chavis has committed just four turnovers in 133 minutes on the floor, boasting a 2.25 assist-to-turnover ratio.
- Chavis is shooting an efficient 38.5 percent form beyond the arc, the second-highest 3-point percentage on the team among those who have taken at least 10 attempts, trailing only Sophie Cunningham.
- Chavis has made multiple triples in a game nine times in her career. Mizzou is 7-2 in those games, and 3-0 this season.
Mizzou vs. Kansas State
- Mizzou and Kansas State square off for the 84th time in the series history. It's the first meeting since 2015 and the first regular season meeting since Feb. 25, 2012.
- Mizzou has won the last two meetings between the two programs. The Tigers won the last contest over the Wildcats, 67-48, in the Postseason WNIT at Mizzou Arena on March 22, 2015.
- As both a head coach at Mizzou and an assistant at Iowa State, Robin Pingeton is 6-5 all-time against Kansas State.
