COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri Tigers (9-8, 2-5) left the Ferrell Center in Waco, Tex. on Wednesday night with a real bad taste in their mouths. Missouri turned the ball over 31 times and were whistled for 27 personal fouls as Baylor defeated the Tigers 78-54.
Missouri got off to a fast start taking a 6-0 lead. Baylor was held scoreless for the first 4 minutes, 51 seconds of the game. The Tigers went up 12-2 before Baylor connected for their first field goal at the 10:19 mark. Baylor pressured the Tigers into 20 first half turnovers and finally tied the game at 24-24 with 1:44 left in the half. The Tigers Ali Johnston connected on a 15 foot jumper with 38.6 seconds to go to give the Tigers a 26-24 halftime lead.
The second half belonged to Baylor. The Tigers were whistled for three personal fouls in the first 1 minute, 17 seconds of the second half. Baylor found themselves in the bonus at the 15:15 mark of the half. The Bears used the Missouri foul situation to their advantage and took a 38-30 lead. The Tigers kept battling as they went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 38-36. But Missouri's fouls continued to mount. Amy Monsees (6 points, 3 rebounds) picked up her fourth personal foul at the 18:55 mark. Fellow forward Ekpe Akpaffiong was whistled for her fourth foul with 12:58 left. Baylor ran out to a 46-37 advantage and took a 13 point lead, 53-40 on a Moncia Arnold layup. Arnold tallied 13 of her 14 points in the second half. The closest Missouri would get was 9 points at 55-46 at the 5:58 mark. Baylor went on a 12-3 run at that point and took a 67-49 lead. The Tigers were charged with four more fouls during that run.
Baylor outscored the Tigers 54-28 in the second half and shot 66 percent from the floor in the half after just 6-of-33 shooting (.182) in the first half.
