COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Angie Welle scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as No. 16 Iowa State beat Missouri 80-54 Saturday night.
The Cyclones (15-3, 7-1 Big 12), with three starters 6-foot-1 or taller, had a 44-33 rebounding advantage over Missouri (9-9, 2-6).
Second-chance points proved critical for the Cyclones in a 19-4 run opening the second half that sealed the victory.
Megan Taylor scored eight points in the stretch, including two 3-pointers, as Iowa State stretched its 39-27 halftime lead to 58-31 with 12:35 remaining.
Missouri, led by Julie Helm's 13 points, could get no closer than 60-41 deficit with 8:30 left.
Stacy Frese, who tied an NCAA record by going 8-for-8 from 3-point range in Iowa State's last game, was only 2-for-9 from long distance against Missouri. Frese finished with 12 points, while Taylor tallied 14, Tracy Gahan scored 13, and Erica Haugen scored 12.
It took the Cyclones nearly six minutes to record their first basket, a baseline jumper by Taylor. Iowa State quickly erased Missouri's five-point lead, and the Tigers' last lead came at 11-10 on Helms' jump shot with 12:20 left in the first half.
Iowa State responded with a 21-6 run over the next eight minutes. Gahan scored seven points in the span.
The Cyclones three losses this season have come at the hands of ranked teams. Iowa State won for just the second time in 20 tries at the Hearnes Center in a series previously dominated by Missouri. The Tigers still own a 39-7 series advantage.
