COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri tennis head coach Bianca Turati announced the promotion of Silvia Chinellato to associate head coach on Thursday, April 24. Chinellato joined Turati and the Missouri Tigers in Sept. 2024.Â
"I can't thank Silvia enough for all she's done here this year," said Turati. "She's contributing to elevating our program in so many ways. What is impressive about her is that she had such an immediate positive impact on the team; the results this year show that! Silvia is truly helping rebuild the program and creating a positive, motivating environment and a winning culture. She works so hard. I am lucky to have her by my side. It is a true pleasure to work with her every day. Congratulations, Silvia! Well deserved!"
"I am honored to be promoted to associate head coach here at Mizzou," stated Chinellato. "I am excited for the opportunity to continue to elevate this program, inspire our athletes and push for greatness both on and off the court. Most importantly, I want to thank Bianca for believing in me and her guidance. Let's go Tigers!"
Chinellato attended the University of South Carolina, where she spent her five-year college career—collected a 70-40 record in doubles and a 72-50 mark for her singles career. During her junior year, she earned an SEC Player of the Week acknowledgment following a 4-0 week against Clemson and No. 20 Texas Tech. The Gamecocks alumna built a 24-16 singles record (11-7 in the SEC) at the No. 4 slot, where she spent most of her career. Chinellato was mainly paired at the No. 2 in doubles and helped achieve a 20-11 record at that slot, with half of those being SEC wins.Â
After college, Chinellato spent two years with Mount St. Mary men's and women's tennis programs. Beginning her career as an assistant coach, she led the women's team to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) playoff spot. Chinellato also coached the MAAC's Player and Rookie of the Year, Victoria Papadopoulou, during the 2022-2023 season. During the 2023-24 season, she was promoted to head coach, where she led the Mountaineer men's tennis team to an 8-14 record while the women closed out the year 3-11.
During her first year alongside Turati, Chinellato helped lead the Tigers 13-15, the most wins for the program since the 2020-21 season, where they picked up 15 wins. This past season, Missouri beat two ranked teams, No. 55 Mississippi State and No. 22 Florida, propelling the team to be ranked in the top 75 four weeks in a row.Â
Originally from Como, Italy, Chillellato graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Tourism and Management, earning her place on the EC Academic Honor Roll and ITA Scholar-Athlete roster. Outside of her education, Chinellato served as a member of SAAC and was named to the SEC Community Team in 2020.
