
Softball Splits First Day of Shocker Invitational Friday

WICHITA, Kan. – University of Missouri softball split its opening day at the 2025 Shocker Invitational Friday at Wilkins Stadium.
MU fell to No. 15/16 Oklahoma State, 4-3, before bouncing back with a 10-1 victory over tournament host, Wichita State.
With the 1-1 start to the Shocker Invitational, Missouri moves to 9-9 in 2025.
No. 15/16 Oklahoma State 4, Missouri 3
Missouri jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning Friday, capitalizing on a pair of Oklahoma State errors over the frame.
Madison Walker, an Olathe, Kansas, native, then belted her sixth homer of the campaign in the third to extend the MU lead to 3-0.
Walker finished the game 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
The Cowgirls responded with four unanswered runs including a three-run fifth to claim the win. With the score tied at 3-3, OSU utilized an RBI bunt single to score the winning run in the seventh.
Claire Cahalan (1-for-3, walk), Stefania Abruscato (1-for-3) and Madison Uptegrove (1-for-2, walk) each added hits in game one of Missouri's stay at the Shocker Invitational.
MU registered a season-best seven walks led by Abby Hay's two.
Marissa McCann (3-3) went the distance in the circle for her fourth complete game of the season. She allowed four runs on eight hits with a strikeout and two walks in the loss.
Outfielder Haidyn Sokoloski and assistant coach Jeff Cottrill both faced off against their former team Friday. Sokoloski transferred to Missouri ahead of the 2025 campaign after two seasons with OSU while Cottrill joined head coach Larissa Anderson's MU staff in June 2022, after seven seasons with the Cowgirls.
Missouri 10, Wichita State 1
Missouri then utilized a six-run fourth to cap the day with a 10-1 win over Invitational host, Wichita State.
It marked the third time in 2025 that the Tigers had scored 10 runs.
Kayley Lenger blasted her first homer of the campaign to get MU on the board in the third. She also scored twice, stole a base and had two walks in the win over WSU.
Julia Crenshaw and Cahalan then each added back-to-back RBI base loaded walks to start the six-run fourth frame.
MU increased the margin to 7-0 after a pair of Shocker errors.
Wichita State then cut the edge to 7-1 on a solo home run from Taylor Sedlacek in the fourth.
Missouri added a run in the fifth after two WSU fielding errors.
The Tigers made it double-digit runs with a pair in the seventh.
Uptegrove's third double in 2025 made the score 9-1 before Cahalan capped the scoring with an RBI single to center.
Cahalan, a sophomore outfielder from Dadeville, Alabama, paced Missouri in the win, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, a run, stolen base and a walk. She has now notched a hit in three straight games. Her two hits Friday matched a personal best (fourth time in her career with two hits).
Uptegrove has posted a hit in four of the last five games.
Taylor Ebbs added a season-best matching pair of hits (2-for-2) with a run and a walk. She now has 99 career hits.
Adi Koller scored a personal-best two times Friday and registered her second career hit (first in 2025).
Cierra Harrison allowed just one earned run on four hits over 6.0 innings of work in the victory. The Lee's Summit, Missouri, junior, matched a career-best 10 strikeouts to improve to 4-3 this season.
Harrison now has 196 career strikeouts.
Taylor Pannell came on for the final inning, allowing zero runs on zero hits with a walk.
Julia Crenshaw has reached base safely in seven-straight games while Kara Daly has now reached base in five consecutive games.
Daly made her 200th career start as a Missouri Tiger in the win over WSU. She ranks sixth amongst the NCAA's active career leaders for games played (204).

- MU next competes in Day 2 of the 2025 Shocker Invitational Saturday at Wilkins Stadium. The Tigers will face South Dakota State (5-6) at 10 a.m., CT and No. 16/18 Nebraska (12-4) at 3 p.m., CT.
- Mizzou returns to Columbia to host its 2025 home opener. MU will face Kansas City Tuesday, March 4 at 5 p.m., CT at the Mizzou Softball Stadium. Fans in attendance will receive Missouri's 2025 poster and schedule magnet.
