COLUMBIA, Mo. — University of Missouri Cross Country begins its season at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday as the host of the Mizzou XC Opener at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course.
The Tiger men will set off in the 6k at 8:30 a.m., while the women will follow with the 5k at 9 a.m.
Missouri will welcome Saint Louis, Iowa State and Oklahoma, with the women's team also competing against in-state foe Missouri State. Twenty-eight student-athletes will compete for Mizzou, 13 on the women's side and 15 on the men's.
Senior Riley Revord leads the women's team that will feature an all-returner lineup on Thursday. Revord is coming off of a strong 2021 season where she finished 15th (17:38.9) at the Mizzou XC Opener last September.
The men's team features 12 returners, including junior Mitchell Small who led the Tigers with a 24th-place finish (30:56.69) at the NCAA Midwest Regionals a year ago.
Graduate Jacob Ridderhoff, freshmen Johnny Schmidt and Dan Brookling are set to make their Missouri debut.
This race will mark the first for the program under new head coach Lindsey Anderson. Anderson, the 2021 National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Coach of the Year, arrived in the offseason after a five-year stint at College of Southern Idaho. She led the Golden Eagle women to their first national championship in 2021.
The Tigers look to improve on a second-place finish at the Mizzou XC Opener last year. Senior Mikayla Reed (10th) and Small (seventh) were among the top finishers who will also compete in this year's field.
