Mizzou Track & Field to Host Tom Botts Invitational

Mizzou will compete against Kansas, St. Louis, DePaul, SIU Carbondale, Northern Iowa and Creighton
COLUMBIA, Mo. — Mizzou Track and Field will host its final home meet of the outdoor season, as the Tigers kick off the Tom Botts Invitational on April 9-10. Mizzou comes off a week of rest, having last competed in the Texas Relays and Raleigh Relays two weekends ago. The Tigers last competed at home in the Mizzou Spring Opener earlier this season, where they captured 12 event wins on the weekend. Mizzou will honor its 17 seniors at the meet.
A total of seven teams will be in competition at the Tom Botts Invitational, as Mizzou is set to host Kansas, St. Louis, DePaul, SIU Carbondale, Northern Iowa and Creighton. Live results will be available through PTTiming.com.
The Tigers are back on the track after a weekend off, having last competed in the Texas and Raleigh Relays. At the Texas Relays, sophomore Georgi Nachev (Yambol, Bulgaria) finished first in the men's triple jump with a leap of 16.29m (53-5.50), the farthest jump at Mizzou since 1984. At the Raleigh Relays, redshirt senior Thomas George (Gloucester, U.K.) highlighted the meet, as he broke the school record by more than 15 seconds in the 10,000m run with a time of 29:00.16.
The Tom Botts Invitational is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. CT on Friday, starting with the women's hammer throw and women's javelin. At 7:30 p.m. CT, Mizzou will kick off track events with the 1500m races. The Tigers will then close out the first day of competition with the 5000m races.
On day two, Mizzou opens the day with the men's shot put and women's discus at 11:30 a.m. CT. Track events will begin at 12:00 p.m. CT , starting with the 4x100m relay races, followed by individual track events The Tigers will wrap up the weekend with men's and women's 4x400m relays at 2:25 p.m. CT. Mizzou will honor its 17 seniors at 2:10 p.m. CT.
Redshirt senior Jordan McClendon (Black Jack, Mo.) will be in action in the women's hammer throw. Last time out, McClendon placed sixth at the Texas Relays with a season best throw of 62.61m (205-5) among stacked competition. McClendon also won the hammer throw at the Mizzou Spring Opener. Her mark currently ranks 28th in the nation.
On the track, redshirt junior Karina Liz (Aurora, Ill.) will compete in the 1500m and 800m races this weekend. Liz returns to the track for the first time since the SEC Indoor Championships. Liz also holds the fifth best mark in program history in the outdoor 800m run with a time of 2:05.64.
Redshirt freshman Mitch Weber (Saint Clair, Minn.) is set to compete in both the men's shot put and discus. Last time out, Weber placed third overall and second among NCAA competitors in the discus at the Texas Relays with a throw of 57.61m. At the Mizzou Spring Opener, Weber moved into the program record books, when he captured first in the discus with a throw of 60.99m (200-1), which ranks third in the nation and second all-time at Mizzou.
Back in competition for the first time since last season, sophomore Roberto Vilches (Mexico City, Mexico) is set to compete in the men's high jump. Vilches holds the second best outdoor high jump mark in school history with a leap of 2.27m (7-5.25).
In the men's 800m, redshirt sophomore Chris Conrad (O'Fallon, Ill.) is set to race. Conrad last competed in the 800m at the Raleigh Relays, where he finished third with a new personal best time of 1:48.19, which currently ranks 10th in the nation.
Freshman Euphenie Andre (Dover Plains, N.Y.) and sophomore Mirieli Santos (Mato Grosso, Brazil) will hit the runway in the women's triple jump on Saturday, competing in their first outdoor event of the season. Santos currently holds the program record in the outdoor triple jump with a leap of 13.46m (44-2). Andre will be making her outdoor debut as a Tiger after a strong sophomore campaign in the indoor season, where she finished eighth at the NCAA Championships.
Following the Tom Botts Invitational, the Tigers will travel to Auburn, Ala. for the War Eagle Invitational on April 16-17. Mizzou is then set to travel to the Drake Relays and Kansas Invitational before beginning postseason competition with the SEC Outdoor Championships.
