COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women's Basketball (3-1, 0-0 SEC) recorded the 800th victory in its program history Saturday following a dominant 88-49 triumph over Oral Roberts. Five different Tigers posted double-digit points against the Golden Eagles, led by 14 from redshirt junior forward Ladazhia Williams.
Williams and sophomore guard Aijha Blackwell have now surpassed 10-plus points in all four games played this season. Blackwell led a strong showing from beyond the arc by the Tigers, personally knocking in a trio of three pointers. Overall Saturday, Mizzou produced a season-best 10-made three pointers on season-high 45% shooting from deep.
Turning Point
With the score tied at 30 apiece midway through the second quarter, Mizzou ended the first half with a nice 12-1 scoring run. The Tigers continued their strong play in the first portion of the second half, extending their impressive run to 21-3. Mizzou was in cruise control the rest of the afternoon, leading to its second consecutive win inside Mizzou Arena.
Top Tigers
- Williams continued her highly efficient start to the 2020-21 campaign with 14 points on 70% shooting from the field. The Bradenton, Florida, native has recorded double-digit points on 67% of higher shooting in all four contests this year.
- Redshirt junior guard Haley Troup and sophomore forward Hayley Frank also both enjoyed highly efficient afternoons, each tallying 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting. Frank was one of three Tigers Saturday with multiple made three pointers.
- Blackwell's trio of three pointers made Saturday marked a new season high, while falling short by only one of her single-game career mark.
- Redshirt senior guard Shug Dickson had her most productive offensive game on the young season, recording a season-high 11 points. The St. Louis native filled up the stat sheet overall, also adding three assists, three steals and two rebounds.
Notes
- Mizzou saw impressive balance from its team versus Oral Roberts, as Williams, Blackwell, Dickson, Frank and Troup all surpassed 10 points. Additionally, 11 of the 12 Tigers who earned minutes against Oral Roberts scored at least one point.
- Saturday marked the first time since Nov. 5, 2019, versus Western Illinois that Mizzou had five-plus players with double-digit points.
- Freshman guard Sara-Rose Smith tallied two rebounds Saturday, marking her second consecutive game with multiple grabs off the board.
- Freshman guard Mama Dembele was another Tiger who filled the box score, posting six points, four rebounds, five assists and one steal.
- Redshirt senior Shannon Dufficy had arguably her top game in black and gold, recording six points on perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc and season-high eight rebounds.
- After recording six points Wednesday against New Orleans, senior guard Nadia Green one-upped that performance this afternoon with a season-high seven points. The Chicago native also tacked-on a season-best three steals and two rebounds.
- Redshirt freshman Micah Linthacum was also solid off the bench for Coach Pingeton, recording new season-highs with four points and five total rebounds (two offensive).
