THE MATCHUP
- Mizzou Women's Basketball hits the road for the first of two consecutive games, first traveling to Oxford, Miss., to face the Ole Miss Rebels on Sunday, Jan. 19. Tipoff from the Pavilion at Ole Miss is slated for 2:00 p.m. CT on SEC Network + with Seth Austin and Lindsay Roy on the call. Mizzou will look to halt a three-game skid, while the Rebels seeks their first conference win of the season, entering the game with an 0-4 mark in SEC play. Sunday's game will serve as Ole Miss' We Back Pat game, recognizing the legendary career of Tennessee coach Pat Summitt.
THE SERIES
- Entering the 11th all-time game between the two schools, Mizzou holds a 9-1 advantage between the two programs, as the Tigers have won all nine matchups since entering the SEC prior to the 2012-13 season. Ole Miss' only victory against the Tigers came on Jan. 5, 1981, where the Rebels won 64-58 in Oxford.
ELITE FRESHMEN DUO
- Mizzou's elite freshmen duo of guard Aijha Blackwell and forward Hayley Frank have lived up to their billing so far this season, as they both currently rank among the top-30 in scoring in the SEC. Blackwell and Frank's mark of 12.3 points per game ranks fifth among SEC freshmen and 26th overall. In program history, only seven freshmen have ever averaged double figures for the Tigers, and never has there been more than one in a single season. Currently, the duo's scoring average ranks fifth all-time among Mizzou freshmen.
THREE-POINT SHOOTING DEPTH
- For years, a staple of the Mizzou offense has been its ability to shoot the deep ball. That skill has not changed this season, as Mizzou's currently ranks in the SEC's top-four and the nation's top-60 in three-pointers made (137 - third in SEC, 26rd nationally), three-pointers made per game (7.6 - third in SEC, 52nd nationally) and three-point percentage (35.0 percent - fourth in SEC, 50th nationally). Individually, five Tigers are shooting better than 35 percent from deep and seven have made 13 or more shots from three. Senior guard Jordan Chavis leads the team in both categories with 30 threes and a 42.9 percent (30-of-70) success rate from deep. Chavis' team-leading 1.7 three-pointers made per game ranks ninth in the SEC.
- Chavis now ranks ninth all-time with 127 three-pointers after passing Julie Helm (123, 1995-00). Chavis has made multiple three-pointers in 11 games this season and 34 times in her career.
- Redshirt senior forward Hannah Schuchts has connected on 37.0 percent (17-of-46) of her shots from three this season, and her career three-point percentage of 37.5 percent (60-of-160), ranks seventh all-time at Mizzou.
- Senior guard Amber Smith's career three-point percentage of 36.3 percent (113-of-311) ranks ninth all-time at Mizzou. Smith has shot 32.8 percent (19-of-58) from three this season, and made a season-best four triples from deep against Tennessee (Jan. 2). Smith will look to join Chavis on the all-time three-pointers list, as she currently ranks 12th with 113 career threes.
SENIOR DUO STEPPING UP ON DEFENSE
- Mizzou seniors Hannah Schuchts and Jordan Chavis have stepped up for Mizzou on the defensive end of the floor this season, leading the team in blocks and steals, respectively.
- Schuchts leads the team in blocks by a wide-margin with 37, and ranks in Mizzou's top-10 all-time in program history at ninth with 117 career blocks. Schuchts' senior mark of 37 blocks already ranks ninth all-time among Mizzou seniors. The Tiger senior has recorded multiple blocks in 13 games this season, and three or more blocks in four games. Schuchts produced two or more blocks in six consecutive games from Dec. 5 to Jan. 2, the longest streak of her career. Against South Dakota (Nov. 21), Schuchts matched a career-high with five blocks, the second time in her career she has hit that mark.
- With 20 steals this season, Chavis has already surpassed her mark of 14 steals last season, and has set her career-best mark for a single season. Chavis grabbed a career-high six steals against Kansas City (Dec. 8), the most steals by a Tiger since Sierra Michaelis grabbed nine steals against Wichita State on Dec. 9, 2016.
CHARITY STRIPE SUCCESS
- Mizzou has put an emphasis on getting to the free throw line this season, as the Tigers have connected on 72.6 percent of its freebies (221-for-302) this season, a mark which ranks third in the SEC. Mizzou has posted marks of 75 percent or better from the free throw line in eight of 18 games this season, including seven games of 80 percent or better.
- Freshman forward Hayley Frank currently leads the SEC and ranks 13th nationally in free throw percentage at 89.7 percent (52-of-58).
- In total, six Tigers are shooting 80 percent or better from the charity stripe (min. 10 att.):
Player | FT-FTA | FT% |
Jordan Chavis | 9-10 | .900 |
Hayley Frank | 52-58 | .897 |
Hannah Schuchts | 12-14 | .857 |
Amber Smith | 32-38 | .842 |
Haley Troup | 20-24 | .833 |
Jordan Roundtree | 33-40 | .825 |
- Mizzou's mark of 31 made free throws against Nebraska (Nov. 10), was the most made free throws by a Tiger team since hitting the same mark against Wake Forest on Nov. 22, 2015. Mizzou made 31-of-38 shots from the free throw line against the Huskers.
- Mizzou had three players set individual career marks from the free throw line against the Huskers, as senior guard Amber Smith went 10-for-11, senior guard Jordan Roundtree was a perfect 9-for-9, freshman guard Aijha Blackwell was 5-for-10.
- Against Northern Iowa (Nov. 13), freshman forward Hayley Frank posted a 9-for-10 mark from the charity stripe.
- Mizzou shot an impressive (93.8 percent, 15-of-16) from the charity stripe against Arkansas (Dec. 5), its best mark since Feb. 28, 2019 (96.3 percent, 26-of-27 at Arkansas).
