COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women's Basketball (4-14, 1-4 SEC) fell to No. 1/2 South Carolina (17-1, 5-0 SEC), 78-45, on Thursday evening at Mizzou Arena. Freshman guard Aijha Blackwell (Berkely, Mo.) led the Tigers with 13 points, her 11th game this season in double figures. Freshman forward Hayley Frank (Strafford, Mo.) tacked on nine points of her own.
TURNING POINT
After the opening quarter, in which defense was key, Mizzou trailed South Carolina by five points, holding the Gamecocks to just 12 points on 20 percent (4-of-20) shooting. However, a 16-0 Gamecock run in the second quarter put the game out of reach for the Tigers.
TOP TIGERS
- With 13 points, Blackwell paced the Tigers, while also grabbing six rebounds and dishing out two assists.
- Frank tallied nine points and dished out two assists while shooting 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
NOTES
- Blackwell's 13 points marked her 11th game this season in double figures.
- The Tiger freshman also grabbed six rebounds in the game, marking fourth consecutive and 14th game overall she has grabbed at least five rebounds.
- Frank was successful on all four of her free throw attempts in the game, her third perfect game from the charity stripe this season when attempting at least four free throws.
- Frank raised her season free throw percentage to 89.7 percent (52-of-58), a mark which leads the SEC.
- With a block in the fourth quarter, senior forward Hannah Schuchts (Tallahassee, Fla.) moved into sole possession of ninth-place all-time at Mizzou with 117 career blocks.
- Senior guard Amber Smith (Shreveport, La.) grabbed five rebounds in the game, marking the 56th time in her career she has had at least five rebounds.
- The Tiger defense held the Gamecocks to just 12 points in the game's opening frame, the fewest points they have scored in a quarter in SEC-play.
