Mizzou opens outdoor season in Wichita on Friday and Saturday
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field will open its outdoor season at the Herm Wilson Invitational, as the Tigers are set to have 38 athletes competing on Friday and Saturday, March 22-23 at Cessna Stadium.
Competition on Friday begin at 12:00 p.m., with the women's hammer throw at 2:30 p.m., followed by distance events at 7:00 p.m., starting with the 3000m steeplechase and ending Friday's events with the 5000m run at 8:10 p.m. Saturday begins with the open field events at 12:00 p.m., followed by open running events at 2:00 p.m. The Herm Wilson Invitational will be livestreamed by Wichita State starting Friday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m., and Saturday, March 23 beginning at 12:00 p.m.
In total, seven teams will be in competition in Wichita, as Mizzou will be joined by the host team Wichita State as well as Nebraska, UMKC, Central Missouri, Emporia State, Fort Hays State.
In field events, three Mizzou athletes will be making their Track & Field season debuts. Redshirt freshman Ethan Hanson (Palatine, Ill.) will be making his season debut in the shot put and hammer throw after redshirting this indoor season, while freshman Ava Curry (Liberty, Mo.) and junior Allie Webb (Platte City, Mo.) will be making their season debuts in the javelin. Other notable entries include NCAA Indoor All-American Jordan McClendon (Black Jack, Mo.) in the women's hammer throw and SEC scorer Avery Carter (Lee Summit, Mo.) in the men's hammer throw.
In the track events, redshirt junior Thomas George (Gloucester, England) makes his Track & Field season debut as he will compete in the 3000m run on Saturday. Other notable entries include junior Kieran Wood (Cambridge, England), who finished third in the mile run at the SEC Indoor Championships. Wood will be competing in the 800m and the 1500m run on Saturday.
