Nine teams to be in competition on Friday
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field returns home to Hearnes Fieldhouse for its next indoor meet of the 2019 campaign, as the Tigers host the Mizzou Open on Friday, Jan. 25. Mizzou will be one of nine teams competing on Friday, as the Tigers will be joined by Avila, Baker, Columbia College, Drury, MidAmerica Nazarene, Missouri Valley, Truman State and William Jewell.
Field events will begin at 11 a.m. CT, with track events to follow at 1 p.m. CT. Live results for the meet will be available through pttiming.com.
In field events, Mizzou will have six athletes with current program top-10 marks who will be in action Friday, including school record holders freshman Arianna Fisher (San Jose, Calif.) and senior Valeria Kostiuk (Kiev, Ukraine). Fisher will be competing in the triple jump, while Kostiuk will compete in the high jump. Fisher set the women's triple jump school record at the Missouri Holiday Opener (Dec. 8), and currently sits at 22nd in the nation with a jump of 12.68m (41-7.25). Kostiuk cleared 1.78m (5-10) at the Missouri Holiday Opener (Dec. 8), a mark which currently ranks 12th in the nation. For the men, redshirt senior Will Fife (Jefferson City, Mo.) will be competing in the shot put, and is coming off a personal record performance at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational (Jan. 20). Fife produced a mark of 18.25m (59-10.5) in Iowa, a mark which ranks 10th all-time on Mizzou's top-10 list.
In track events, redshirt freshman Jayson Ashford (Fairview Heights, Ill.) and senior Maya Cody (St. Louis, Mo.) will both be on the track. Ashford will run in the 60m dash and 200m dash, where he holds program top-10 marks in both events. At the Larry Wieczorek Invitational (Jan. 19-20), the Tiger freshman ran the ninth-best time in program history at 6.85, and improved his 200m dash time to 21.58, which ranks eighth. His converted 200m dash time of 21.22 currently ranks 26th in the nation. Cody will run in the 60m dash and 200m dash as well, where she holds the second-best and third-best marks in program history at 7.36 and 24.07, respectively.
