Wilmes & Kessinger visit #BombCity despite the loss
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Softball (28-25, 6-15 SEC) competed well against one of the nation's top pitchers Friday, but fell 4-2 to No. 4 Florida in the weekend series opener. The Gators' Kelly Barnhill surrendered multiple home runs in a start for only the fourth time this season.
Brooke Wilmes launched a solo home run in the second inning, followed by a solo blast from Cayla Kessinger in the seventh inning. Barnhill, the Southeastern Conference leader in strikeouts (fifth in the nation), only produced four Friday against the Tiger offense.

Hear From Coach Fogue
On Friday's series opener loss…
"I feel like we were right there all night against Florida, but they took advantage of a couple more situations then we did. In the first inning, we allowed a pair of leadoff walks and they scored two off of that. We cut the deficit to one after Wilmes' home run and I felt like we had the momentum. Unfortunately, they answered with a couple home runs themselves in the sixth inning to put the game away. We'll re-group and come back strong tomorrow."
#MIZ Takeaways
- Kessinger's 10th home run this season matched Amanda Sanchez for the team lead. Six of her blasts this year have occurred in SEC play, while five have taken place in the friendly confines of Mizzou Softball Stadium.
- Nash's double in the sixth inning was her fourth this year, establishing a new single-season high in the category. It also secured her 13th multi-hit game this season, ranking tied for second amongst Tiger hitters.
- Mizzou now has 76 doubles collectively this year, ranking 10th all-time in a single-season in program history. Additionally, the Tigers now possess 54 home runs on the year, ranking ninth all-time in single-season history.
