Sophie Cunningham led Mizzou with 18 points
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Women's Basketball (17-4, 5-3) fell to No. 9 South Carolina on the road on Sunday despite a gritty effort. Junior Sophie Cunningham scored a team-high 18 points, reaching 18 points for the fourth consecutive game. Redshirt senior Jordan Frericks added 10 points, eight rebounds and two assists in 32 minutes. Mizzou shot 40 percent from the field and held the Gamecocks to 34.5 percent shooting, but South Carolina converted 14 more free throws and took 18 more attempts at the line to seal a win. Mizzou suffered losses in back-to-back games for the first time this season.
Turning Point
After sophomore guard Amber Smith scored a pair of buckets on back-to-back possessions to tie the game at 49-49 with 4:32 remaining, South Carolina answered with a game-changing 8-0 run that proved to be the difference. The Gamecocks made three consecutive buckets in the paint and added a pair of free throws during the momentum swing, establishing a 57-49 advantage. Mizzou scored just five points down the stretch as the South Carolina run secured the victory for the home squad.

- With 18 points Sunday at South Carolina, Cunningham is averaging 20.0 points per game over the last four contests. In the last three games against South Carolina, she has scored 73 combined points, averaging 24.3 points per game vs. the Gamecocks. Cunningham added eight rebounds on Sunday.
