COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Women's Basketball (11-7, 1-3) wraps up a road swing at Vanderbilt on Sunday. Tip is slated for 2 p.m. CT on SEC Network Plus.
OF NOTE
- Mizzou is looking to win two conseuctive road games over Vanderbilt for the first time in program history. Mizzou won a tight battle two years ago at Memorial Gymnasium, 54-51.
- The Tigers have won two of their last three meetings over the Commodores. All of the last three matchups between Mizzou and Vanderbilt have been decided by five points or less.
- Mizzou is one of two SEC schools with four players ranking in the top 25 in the league in minutes played. All four players (Lindsey Cunningham, Sophie Cunningham, Cierra Porter and Sierra Michaelis) are averaging more than 30 minutes per contest.
- Mizzou is now outscoring opponents a combined 322-245 in the opening quarter. The Tigers have outpaced SEC foes 68-41 through four conferences games.
- Mizzou edged Alabama, 13-6, in the first quarter last Sunday. The Crimson Tide's six points were the fewest Mizzou has allowed in an opening frame this season.
- Mizzou ranks seventh in the nation in free throw percentage as a team so far this season as the Tigers are shooting 79.0 percent from the line. That percentage currently tops the Southeastern Conference.
- Mizzou ranks 15th in Division I in total free throws made with 259. Mizzou has taken less attempts at the line than 13 of the 14 teams ahead of them on the list.
SOPHIE'S ON FIRE
- Since returning from a back injury that sidelined her for two games, Sophie Cunningham has averaged 19.6 points per contest over the last seven outings. She is averaging 20.3 points per game during SEC play, which ranks second in the conference.
- Cunningham recently played the first full game of her career, staying on the court for all 40 minutes in a heartbreaking loss to Alabama.
- Cunningham has played her best basketball of the season of late. The sophomore paced Mizzou with 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting (62.5 percent) vs. Alabama and followed with a season-high 32 points on 12-of-17 shooting at LSU. She is the only player in the SEC to shoot above 60 percent in multiple games during league play this season. The 32-point outburst is the second-best performance by an SEC player during conference play thus far.
- Thursday marked the fourth time since her return that Cunningham has notched at least 20 points in a game. She's now reached 20 points in a game five times this season and 15 times in her young career (which includes just 48 total games played).
- After averaging 14.0 points per game a season ago on her way to capturing SEC Freshman of the Year honors, Cunningham has pushed her average to 17.1 points per game in 2016-17. That ranks fourth in the SEC thus far. She's also dishing out 3.9 assists per contest, which ranks 10th in the league.
- Cunningham was one of 50 players nationally to be named to the 2017 Preseason Naismith Player of the Year Watch List.
SCOUTING VANDERBILT
- After opening the season 10-1, Vanderbilt has lost six consecutive games, including four straight games to open Southeastern Conference play.
- Vanderbilt is led by first-year head coach Stephanie White, who won a national championship at Purdue as a player and went on to coach the WNBA's Indiana Fever before taking over at Vanderbilt.
- Vanderbilt is led by a pair of junior guards in Rachel Bell and Christa Reed. Bell is contributing a team-high 12.2 points per game. Eight different Commodores are averaging at least six points per contest as Vanderbilt utilizes a balanced attack.
- Vanderbilt leads the SEC in three-point field goal percentage, shooting a blistering 40.5 percent from the beyond the arc as a team.
LAST TIME OUT
- Mizzou dropped a road contest at LSU, 80-71, on Thursday night. Sophomore Sophie Cunningham poured in a season-high 32 points, but LSU held on behind a strong second half. Cunningham made 12-of-17 attempts (70.6 percent) and drained a season-best five three-pointers.
- Thursday's performance marked the fifth time in her career that Cunningham has shot 70 percent or better from the floor when taking at least five attempts. She has now scored at least 20 points in a single game 15 times and 30 points in a contest twice.
- Redshirt senior Lindsey Cunningham (Columbia, Mo.) matched her career-high for the third time with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Two of her three career 16-point performances have come against LSU. Lindsey Cunningham also dished out a season-high eight assists in a solid all-around outing.
