COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Women's Basketball (11-6, 1-2) hits the road for a two-game swing away from home that features trips to LSU and Vanderbilt. Mizzou takes on LSU on Thursday at 7 p.m. on SEC Network Plus.
OF NOTE
- Mizzou is looking to win two straight games over LSU for the first time in program history. Mizzou won its first home game in the all-time series last season, a 52-46 victory.
- A win Thursday would be Mizzou's second win over LSU since 1988. The 1988 victory is the lone road win for Mizzou in the all-time series.
- Last season, current redshirt senior Lindsey Cunningham had a career night against LSU, pouring in a career-high 16 points and grabbing six rebounds. In the last two outings vs. LSU, Lindsey is averaging 11.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
- Mizzou is now outscoring opponents a combined 301-229 in the opening quarter. The Tigers in black and gold have outpaced SEC foes 47-25 in the first quarter through three conferences games.
- Mizzou edged Alabama, 13-6, in the first quarter on Sunday. The Crimson Tide's six points were the fewest Mizzou has allowed in an opening frame this season.
- Sophomore Cierra Porter ranks fourth in the SEC in total blocked shots with 30 swats (which is already more than her total output from last season) and second in the league in total offensive rebounds with 61. Porter matched her career high with five blocked shots against Alabama. She is one of three players in the SEC to rack up at least five swats in multiple games this season.
- Mizzou ranks eighth in the nation in free throw percentage as a team so far this season as the Tigers are shooting 78.6 percent from the line. That percentage currently tops the Southeastern Conference.
- Mizzou ranks eighth in Division I in total free throws made with 254. All seven teams ahead of them on the list have more attempts from the line this season.
- Mizzou ranks third in the SEC in defensive rebound percentage (71.2 percent). Despite having just one true forward playing 15 minutes or more per game, Mizzou has outrebounded opponents 13 times in 17 games this season, going 10-3 in those contests.
SOPHIE'S STRONG RETURN
- Since returning from a back injury that sidelined her for two games, Sophie Cunningham has averaged 17.5 points per contest over the last six outings.
- Cunningham recently played the first full game of her career, staying on the court for all 40 minutes in a heartbreaking loss to Alabama. The sophomore paced Mizzou with a season-high 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting (62.5 percent). She's one of just five SEC players to shoot above 60 percent in a game during league play so far.
- Sunday marked the third time since her return that Cunningham has notched at least 20 points in a game, scoring 21 points in a double-digit win over UT Martin and 21 points in a loss at Saint Louis. She's now reached 20 points in a game four times this season and 14 times in her young career (which includes just 47 total games played).
- After averaging 14.0 points per game a season ago on her way to capturing SEC Freshman of the Year honors, Cunningham has pushed her average to 16.1 points per game in 2016-17. That ranks 10th in the SEC thus far. She's also dishing out 3.9 assists per contest, which ranks sixth in the league. She is the only player in the SEC ranking in the top ten in the league in scoring and top six in assists.
- Cunningham was one of 50 players nationally to be named to the 2017 Preseason Naismith Player of the Year Watch List.
STOUT DEFENSE
- On Sunday, Alabama shot 33.8 percent from the field. Mizzou has now held opponents under 35-percent shooting seven times this season. The Tigers are 6-1 in those contests. Alabama's 16 percent effort from the beyond the arc was the lowest 3-point field goal percentage allowed by the Tigers this season.
- After holding Alabama to six points in the opening frame, Mizzou has now limited its opponents to single digit scoring in 13 total quarters this season and six points or fewer six different times. (2nd Quarter vs. Wichita State - 4, 2nd Quarter vs. Abilene Christian – 5, 4th Quarter vs. Nebraska – 5, 1st Quarter vs. Alabama – 6, 2nd Quarter vs. SLU – 6, 3rd Quarter vs. Georgia – 6)
- Mizzou ranks 38th in the nation and fourth in the SEC in field goal percentage defense (35.7 percent). The Tigers are one of five teams in the SEC in the top 50 in the country in that category.
SCOUTING LSU
- LSU has won back-to-back conference games and now stands at 2-1 in league play through three SEC games. Sophomore guard Chloe Parker has exploded offensively of late, pouring in 23.3 points per game during SEC play while shooting 51.7 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc.
- Parker has averaged 14.1 points per game this season. Junior Raigyne Moncrief leads the team in scoring (14.4 PPG) & assists (2.8 APG).
- LSU has won nine of its last 10 games. All three of the Tigers' losses have come against teams in the current AP Top 25: No. 1 Connecticut, No. 4 Mississippi State and No. 25 Kansas State.
LAST TIME OUT
- Mizzou suffered its first home loss of the season in heartbreaking fashion as Alabama defeated the Tigers, 59-58. Mizzou surged in front by two with 2.5 seconds remaining but the Crimson Tide hit its fourth three-pointer in 25 attempts with less than a second left to snatch the win.
- Sophomore guard Sophie Cunningham delivered another brilliant performance for Mizzou, pouring in a season-high 24 points on 10-of-16 (62.5 percent) shooting. Cunningham scored all eight of Mizzou's second quarter points. The sophomore also recorded six rebounds and three assists in the loss.
- Sophomore forward Cierra Porter continued her steady strong play in the post. Porter secured her eighth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds in 33 minutes of tough work. She also tied her career-high with five blocked shots to help Mizzou set a new season high for blocked shots as a team with eight swats.
