Mizzou will send 29 wrestlers to Cedar Falls, seven top-25 teams scheduled to wrestle

COLUMBIA, Mo. – In its first trip to an open tournament as a team, No. 5 Mizzou Wrestling will send 29 grapplers to the Northern Iowa (UNI) Open in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Saturday. Wrestling from the UNI-Dome is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. (CT), with FloWrestling to provide a broadcast of the event.
Among the 27 teams registered to wrestle at the tournament, seven teams are currently ranked in the USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll, including No. 3 Iowa and fifth-ranked Mizzou. Illinois (No. 13), Minnesota (No. 18), Wisconsin (No. 17), South Dakota State (No. 20), Northern Iowa (No. 22) are all slated to send wrestlers to the open on Saturday. Three teams ranked in the top-25 NCAA Division II Rankings by Intermat will also be wrestling at the UNI-Dome, with St. Cloud State (No. 1), Maryville (No. 2) and Minnesota State Mankato (No. 19) all planning to attend.
Of Mizzou's 29 wrestlers set to compete on Saturday, 10 have made at least one dual start and 10 have registered top-three finishes at open tournaments this season. Three of Mizzou's returning All-Americans, senior 197-pounder J'den Cox (Columbia, Mo.), redshirt senior 149-pounder Lavion Mayes (Mascoutah, Ill.) and redshirt sophomore 165-pounder Daniel Lewis (Blue Springs, Mo.) will be in action on Saturday. Each wrestler is ranked in the top-five of his respective weight class in the individual rankings.
Of the 10 wrestlers who will wrestle Saturday that have recorded top-three placings this season include sophomore 165-pounder Connor Flynn (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) and redshirt freshman 157-pounder Phyllip DeLoach (Alton, Ill.). Flynn won the 165 pound titles at the Maryville Brand Kaufman Open (Nov. 12) and Joe Parisi Open (Nov. 19), while DeLoach captured the 157-pound Elite Division title at the Maryville Brand Kaufman Open. Freshman heavyweight Jake Bohlken (Smithville, Mo.) and freshman 157-pounder Ethan Karsten (Platte City, Mo.) both captured titles in the amateur division at the Kaufman Open.
