
Jason Hampton and Demetri Carrera Join Wrestling Incoming Class

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou wrestling head coach Brian Smith announces two additions to the 2026 signing class, signing Jason Hampton and Demetri Carrera on Friday, May 1.

Jason Hampton is coming to Columbia, Missouri, to join the Tigers after a previous commitment to SIUE, a program coming off a strong season. Hampton finished up his senior season as a runner-up in Illinois with a record of 43-4 at 132 pounds. Overall, Hampton is a four-time Illinois State placer, taking second twice in his career. The incoming freshman also placed at multiple national tournaments, including Al Dvorak and was the runner-up at Donnybrook.

Demetri Carrera | Aurora, Illinois | Marmion Academy | Team El1te Wrestling and Fitz Wrestling Academy
2026 Illinois State Champion at 144 pounds, Demetri Carrera is set to join Mizzou next season. The Illinois native is ranked No. 192 on the 2026 Bog Board and No. 23 at 144 pounds. Carrera is coming off a 43-5 senior season with a state title and was a three-time placer in Illinois. He placed third at Donnybrook this past season and made it to the bloodround at Super 32.
Carrera also earned multiple honors, including two-time MVP, the Hammer Award, Academic All-American recognition and Conference Outstanding Wrestler.
