| Julie Dorn firmly put her stamp on the Missouri gymnastics program during a stellar career. She was the Big Eight Conference Female Athlete-of-the-Year in 1991 while Mizzous Doug Smith was the male honoree, making Missouri the first school to claim both prizes in the same year. She was a three-time all-conference performer and won league championships in the vault and floor exercise in 1991. A crowd favorite, she won three events in the inaugural Shakespeares Festival in 1991, won individual titles at the Cat Classic in 1988 and 89, and propelled Missouri to its first Cat Classic championship in 1990. She held 16 school records when she was inducted into the MU Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame and was Mizzous first two-time all-American, placing at the NCAA Championships in the vault and floor exercise in 1990. She also competed at the NCAAs in 1989. A native of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Dorn went on to work in event planning for the Kansas City Chiefs, as assistant director of championships for the Big Eight and Big 12 Conferences, and in development positions for Mizzou athletics, the Boys and Girls Club of Columbia, the MU School of Nursing and the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri. She was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2022. |
