Mizzou women's basketball fell 85-66 to Georgia on Sunday afternoon at Mizzou Arena.
Junior guard Shannon Dowell led Mizzou with 16 points, four rebounds and a steal.
Junior guard Lisa Thompson added 14 points and dished a pair of assists. The entirety of Thompson's scoring effort came in the second half.
Junior guard Grace Slaughter contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.
The teams exchanged scores to open the contest, sophomore guard Chloe Sotell dialed up a long-range bucket and junior guard Abbey Schreacke knocked down a trio of free throws after getting fouled on an attempt from beyond the arc. The charity stripe conversions saw Mizzou trailing by one through five minutes of game action.
Dowell, redshirt freshman guard Ma'Riya Vincent and redshirt senior guard Jayla Smith recorded baskets down the stretch, but Georgia led 19-17 after the opening frame.
The Bulldogs extended their advantage throughout the second quarter. Dowell scored four of her total to pace the Tigers' offense, but Georgia led 41-28 headed into the half.
The programs battled back and forth early in the third as the Tigers tried to cut into the deficit. Slaughter buried a triple in the heart of the frame and moments later, raced the floor for a fastbreak layup to put Mizzou within 12.
In the back half of the quarter, the Tigers sank five of six field goal attempts to close the gap to 62-50 headed into the fourth.
Thompson scored seven in just six minutes on the floor to propel the scoring charge.
In the fourth quarter, Mizzou continued to battle as Thompson totaled another seven and Smith added four down the stretch. The effort was not enough as Georgia maintained its advantage and closed the contest.
With the loss, Mizzou dropped to 6-16 all-time in games played on Super Bowl Sunday.
