
No. 18 Wrestling Advances 10 to the Semifinals in Day One of Soldier Salute

CORALVILLE, Iowa - No. 18-ranked Mizzou wrestling sits in first place with 99 points at the end of day one of the Soldier Salute on Saturday, Jan. 3 in Coralville, Iowa. Missouri wrestlers combined to go 43-25 over the course of the day for a .632 winning percentage, tallying 26 bonus-point wins (.380).
SESSION I
Missouri closed out session I in first place with a total of 32 points. The Tigers' individual record through session I sat at 20-9, good for a .690 winning percentage. 14 of the 23 Mizzou wrestlers advanced to the quarterfinal round, and none were eliminated in the first session. Mizzou also tallied five falls.
SESSION II
The second session saw ten Tigers punch their ticket to the semifinals tomorrow morning, in addition to four more wrestlers securing their places in the top eight. Individually, Missouri wrestlers combined to go 23-16 across session II. Mizzou continued to pile on the team points, maintaining a 4.5 point lead over second-place Wyoming. Wrestlers eliminated from contention for top eight honors are eligible to wrestle in the Silver Bracket tomorrow.
MATCH NOTES
- The 2025-26 season marks the first in which Missouri has sent a full squad to the Soldier Salute, with various individual Tigers previously making appearances at the tournament. Mizzou's history at the event is highlighted by a runner-up finish from Aeoden Sinclair last season.
- Two competitors made their debuts in the Black and Gold singlet. Redshirt senior Teague Travis looked impressive in his debut, going 3-0 and advancing to tomorrow's semifinals. The Columbia native transferred to Mizzou last month. Freshman Sampson Stillwell also made his debut, competing at 285 pounds.
- Two wrestlers on the Mizzou roster competed at the event unattached. Gage Walker (133 pounds) and Seth Mendoza (149 pounds) both blazed their way into the semifinals, despite redshirting this season.
- Over the course of the day, Missouri tallied 26 bonus point victories, featuring six major decisions, 12 technical falls and eight falls. The following wrestlers won multiple matches via bonus points: Jace Roller, Mendoza, Travis, David Gleason, Max Mayfield, Dominic Bambinelli, Sinclair, Logan Cole, Evan Bates and Jarrett Stoner.
UP NEXT
Mizzou will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 4, at Soldier Salute in inside Xtream Arena. Session III is set to begin at 11 a.m. CT and can be streamed on B1G+. The Tigers will look to clinch their first Soldier Salute team title.
