Slaughter Scores 24, Women's Basketball Downs Texas A&M

Mizzou women's basketball dominated early and defeated Texas A&M 81-70 on Sunday evening at Mizzou Arena.
Junior guard Grace Slaughter led Missouri (14-9, 2-6 SEC) with 22 points behind an 11-15 performance at the charity stripe.
Redshirt senior guard Jayla Smith hit double figures in the points column with a 15-point performance. Smith went 4-of-4 at the free-throw line.
Senior forward Jordana Reisma totaled 10 points and added three rebounds.
Junior guard Abbey Schreacke totaled 10 points of her own, shooting 50 percent (2-of-4) behind the arc. She grabbed seven boards and contributed two assists.
With the programs exchanging baskets in the opening minutes, Schreacke ignited Mizzou's offense with back-to-back triples that accelerated a 9-0 run. Moments later, Chloe Sotell buried a triple to bolster a 7-0 run that capped the opening quarter and gave Mizzou a 21-9 lead.
The Tigers capitalized on Texas A&M (8-8, 1-6) fouls with seven of their second-quarter points coming from free throws. Mizzou pushed its advantage to 17, but a late run from the Aggies saw Mizzou end the second quarter with a ten-point advantage, 35-25.
Missouri continued its dominance into the third and opened with an eight-point run. Reisma led the charge, as she knocked down four points. Sotell highlighted the period with a 3-point buzzer beater as Mizzou poured in 24 in the quarter and took a 19-point lead headed into the final frame.
Slaughter scored eight of her total in the fourth quarter to pace the Mizzou offense. Texas A&M made a late run, but the Tigers closed the contest at the free-throw line.
Mizzou attempted 37 free throws in the contest compared to 24 from the Aggies.

Mizzou will travel to face Mississippi State at Humphrey Coliseum on Sunday at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
