
No. 18 Wrestling Closes Weekend with Commanding 42-0 Win Over Northern Colorado

COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 18 Mizzou wrestling bounced back with a resounding 42-0 shutout over Big 12 Conference foe Northern Colorado on Sunday, Jan. 25, in Hearnes Center. Mizzou won all ten contested bouts of the afternoon, picking up bonus points in seven matches. The Tigers' record sits at 9-7 (3-2 Big 12), while the Bears drop to 2-6 (1-2 Big 12).
The match commenced at 125 as Mack Mauger cruised to a dominant technical fall for Missouri. Momentum carried over in the 133-pound bout for the Tigers as Gage Walker won by major decision. Soon after, the Indianapolis, Indiana native, Zeke Seltzer, gritted out a victory in the 141-pound match by decision over his Bear foe. The Tigers recorded their second major decision of the afternoon in the 149-pound match as Josh Edmond won hands down. 157 pounds wrapped up the first half of the dual as Teague Travis won by decision with a two-takedown performance.
Mizzou continued its dominance in the latter half of the dual. At 165 J Conway picked up another win by technical fall. Up next, the 174 bout saw Cam Steed, a Collinsville, Oklahoma native, win by decision over his Northern Colorado opponent. The Tigers found their third technical fall of the dual in the 184 match, where Aeoden Sinclair cruised to a victory. Evan Bates then matched that with a technical fall of his own in the 197th match. The dual wrapped up with an impressive 20-point third period to clinch a third-straight technical fall in the 285 bout by Jarrett Stoner.
MATCH NOTES
- Mizzou moves to 4-0 all-time against Northern Colorado, with the series dating back to 1977-78. The Tigers' 42-point margin of victory is the largest in the series' history.
- Head Coach Brian Smith added to his illustrious resume, tallying dual win number 350. His all-time record now sits at 350-137-4, good for a .713 winning percentage dating back to his coaching debut at Syracuse in 1997-98.
- Missouri continued to light up the scoreboard, putting up 40+ team points in a dual for the fifth time this season. The shutout was also Missouri's fourth of the season and second against a Division I opponent.
- Seven Mizzou wrestlers tallied bonus points with Mauger (125), Conway (165), Sinclair (184), Bates (197), and Stoner (285) securing technical falls, and Walker (133) and Edmond (149) picking up major decisions.
- Travis clinched his first win in Columbia with the Black & Gold at 157 pounds. He previously recorded a victory in the Hearnes Center as a member of the Oklahoma State Cowboys (Feb. 4, 2023), as well as winning three MSHSAA State titles in Mizzou Arena (2018-2020) as a representative of Father Tolton Catholic in Columbia.
- With his second-period technical fall, Sinclair sits at 17 bonus-point victories on the season, second most of the top-10 wrestlers at 184 pounds, only behind Franklin & Marshall's James Conway (18).
- Bates' technical fall at 197 pounds made him the second Tiger to reach 20 wins on the season, joining Sinclair (22). Travis also reached a season milestone with his 10th win of the year.
- Stoner scored all 20 of his points in the third period for his fourth match termination of the season and tied his career high for points in a match (20 against Maryville, Nov. 2, 2025).

The Tigers begin another road trip as they head south to take on Little Rock on Saturday, Jan. 31, beginning at 6 p.m. CT. The match will be broadcast on FloWrestling.
