LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – No. 19 Mizzou wrestling takes down Little Rock 33-9 on Saturday evening, Jan. 31, inside the Jack Stephens Center. Missouri won seven out of ten bouts on the night, as well as claiming bonus points in six wins. Mizzou jumps to 10-7 (3-2 Big 12), while Little Rock sits at 3-9 (0-1 Pac-12).
The Black and Gold went two-for-two with bonus point victories off the jump. Redshirt freshman Mack Mauger opened up the dual at 125 pounds with a major decision, the second win of his career over the Trojan Tyson Roach. Sophomore Gage Walker quickly followed with a dominant second-period technical fall to expand Missouri's lead. The Tigers dropped back-to-back heartbreakers in sudden victory before redshirt senior Teague Travis got the train back on the tracks at 157 pounds, blitzing his way to a 19-4 technical fall.
Little Rock picked up a win out of the break with a top-five competitor, but returning All-American Cam Steed halted the Trojans momentum at 174 pounds with a lightning-quick technical fall in under two minutes. Redshirt freshman Aeoden Sinclair piled on with a pin in the waning moments of the second period at 184 pounds, icing the dual by giving Missouri a 16-point lead with two bouts to go. Redshirt freshman Logan Cole, a native of Laurel, Montana, took to the mat at 197 pounds, where he made it three consecutive big wins for Missouri with a technical fall. Jarrett Stoner closed it out strong at 285 pounds with an 8-2 decision, making it four consecutive Tiger victories to end the evening.
MATCH NOTES
- Missouri advances to 2-1 all-time against Little Rock, with all three meetings coming in the last two seasons.
- Head Coach Brian Smith claims career dual meet win number 351, moving him back ahead of Ohio State's Tom Ryan, who just won his 350th dual on Friday night.
- Mizzou clinched its 22nd season with ten or more wins under Smith, and its first since 2023-24.
- Four of the 10 bouts were repeat matchups from the last meeting, coming at 125, 141, 149 and 285 pounds. This time around, the teams split those four bouts, while Mizzou went 4-0 at such weights the last time around.
- Mauger's major decision over Tyson Roach was his second victory over the opponent, with both coming alongside bonus points. The first bout between the two ended with a first-period fall for the Tiger.
- Both Walker (133) and Travis (157) put up technical falls, with Walker's being his third of the season and Travis' being his seventh of the season.
- Steed and Sinclair picked up a technical fall and a fall, respectively, in the second half of the dual. The technical fall was the seventh of the 174-pounder's career, and the fall was the eighth of the 184-pounder's career.
- Cole's technical fall marked his first dual action of the season against a Division I opponent, after previously picking up a win in a dual against Central Methodist (NAIA). It also marked his first win in a DI dual after falling short in three duals during his redshirt campaign.
- The three bouts in which the Trojans secured wins all three went on into sudden victory overtime and ended with a score of 4-1. Notably, 141 pounds also went to overtime the last time around, one of Seltzer's four OT bouts this year.
