Helen Hu becomes the first gymnast in the award’s history to win it five times in a season.
COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri gymnast Helen Hu (Chicago, Ill.) has been named the Southeastern Conference Specialist of the Week for the fifth time in the 2025 season, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
The redshirt senior notched the second perfect score of her career with the result at No. 16 Arkansas and became the only individual in the country with two 10s on beam this year. She is the first athlete to receive the award five times in a singular season.
Hu became the second gymnast in program history to score two perfect 10s in a season, the first time since Lauren Schwartzman accomplished the feat in 2004 on beam.
Led by Hu, Mizzou scored 49.575, its best-ever beam score. She is one of two gymnasts nationally and the only one in the conference with five scores of 9.975 or better this season.
Hu is the second Tiger to record a pair of perfect scores in the same season. Her result moved her up to second in the country in beam NQS, the second-highest individual ranking in program history, and first in the SEC. The Tigers claim the No. 11 spot for beam with an NQS score of 49.370.
The victory over the Razorbacks also marked head coach Shannon Welker's 100th career win, allowing the team to finish the regular season with a 13-4 record and a 5-3 mark in the SEC.
Mizzou travels to the 2025 SEC Championship on March 22 at the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Ala. The Tigers will join Oklahoma, LSU and Florida to compete in Session II scheduled for 7 p.m. This is the first time the program has made the night session of the championship meet since joining the conference in 2012. The contest will be televised on SEC Network.
