Women’s Basketball Earns Victory over Kansas City

Mizzou women's basketball defeated Kansas City 71-67 in overtime on Sunday afternoon at Mizzou Arena.
Sophomore guard Chloe Sotell led Mizzou with 23 points behind seven 3-pointers. Sotell rounded out her stat line with six rebounds and two blocks.
Junior guard Abbey Schreacke made four triples to total 12 points. Schreacke added four rebounds and two assists.
Junior guard Grace Slaughter submitted a double-double performance with 12 points and 11 boards to go along with six assists.
Senior forward Jordana Reisma also tallied a double-double with 11 points and a team-high 14 rebounds.
Mizzou got to work early in the contest as Schreacke buried a 3-pointer on the Tigers' first possession to beat the shot clock.
Kansas City settled in offensively and took a five-point lead with just under two minutes remaining in the quarter, but another triple from Schreacke from the top of the arc brought the Tigers within two.
Following a layup by redshirt senior Jayla Smith in the closing seconds, Mizzou trailed 14-13 after one.
Kansas City pushed its lead back to seven with just over six minutes remaining in the second, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Sotell and Schreacke quickly moved the Tigers to within one.
The Roos responded with consecutive triples of their own, but Mizzou mounted a 10-2 scoring charge that was accelerated by another pair of triples from Schreacke and Stoell. The run gave the Tigers the lead before a trio of free throws later gave Kansas City a 36-34 advantage at the half.
Following the break, Sotell jumpstarted Mizzou with a triple from the right corner on the first Tigers possession of the third period.
Mizzou attacked the basket early in the third quarter and was sent to the free-throw line as a result. The Tigers converted six attempts to take a four-point lead before Sotell connected on her fourth triple to push the lead to 46-39.
A run in the back half of the frame by Kansas City saw the visitors lead 50-46 headed into the fourth.
A 3-pointer from Slaughter ignited a 13-3 Tigers run to start the fourth. Sotell converted two triples in the run and junior guard Lisa Thompson supplemented the scoring with a pair of midrange baskets.
Kansas City gradually battled back to tie the contest and force the overtime period.
Sotell once again jump-started Mizzou in the extra frame with a triple. On the next possession, senior guard Saniah Tyler forced a steal on the defensive end and passed it ahead to Slaughter for a layup. The consecutive plays were part of a greater 7-2 run.
After gaining the narrow lead, Mizzou was able to close the contest at the free-throw line.
