
No. 14 Wrestling Travels to Cedar Falls for Big 12 Matchup with No. 15 Northern Iowa

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou wrestling heads to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to take on No. 15 Northern Iowa in the McLeod Center on Sunday, Dec. 14. The dual starts at 1 p.m. CT and can be streamed on FloWrestling.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Tigers split matches at Journeymen Duals' Hustle in the Heartland, blanking LIU 42-0, but dropped to No. 6 Nebraska, 27-10.
- The shutout of LIU marked the first for Missouri against a Division I opponent since Jan. 10, 2024, at Stanford (39-0).
- Seven bonus-point wins against the Sharks is the most for the Tigers against a DI team this season.
- Mizzou's 42 points versus LIU are the most in a Division I dual since blanking Lindenwood 55-0 to start the 2022-23 season.
- Redshirt senior Josh Edmond picked up his fourth bonus-point win of the season against Scott Robertson of Nebraska at 149 pounds with a 16-8 major decision.
- Climbing the ranks, redshirt senior Evan Bates upset No. 10 Camden McDanel in a 4-1 decision, and avenged a Big 10 Championship loss from a year ago when Bates was at Northwestern.
- Totaling his sixth win over a ranked opponent this season, redshirt freshman Aeoden Sinclair defeated No. 8 Silas Allred, 5-1.
COUGAR CLASH CHRONICLES
- Missouri totaled 135 points at the Cougar Clash on Dec. 7, with nine Tigers finishing in the top eight of their respective weight classes.
- Redshirt junior Easton Hilton picked up an upset win at 141 pounds over No. 13 Danny Pucino of Illinois in sudden victory, 4-1. Additionally, Hilton mounted a comeback in the 141 final against No. 14 Cory Land of Northern Iowa but ultimately lost 16-13.
- Joining Hilton with a runner-up finish, classmate J Conway won four matches on his way to the final at 157 pounds, where he dropped a rematch to No. 7 Kannon Webster.
- Of the nine placewinners, two wrestled in the first place match, four wrestled for third, two in the fifth place match and three competed for seventh.
FRESHMEN FIRE
- At Hustle in the Heartland, Danny Heiser filled in at 174 pounds for the Tigers and secured his first college dual win against LIU with a technical fall (19-4) over Jack Valentin.
- The Columbia kid, Hank Benter, secured his first college win at Cougar Clash over Drew Davis of SIUE at 125 pounds. Benter went 2-3 at the tournament and placed eighth in the 125 bracket.
- Seth Mendoza wrestled his first college event at 149 pounds and recorded one pin and two technical falls on his way to a third-place finish.
- All six of the true freshmen who wrestled at Cougar Clash placed in the top eight in their respective weight classes.
RUNNING DOWN RANKINGS
- The Tigers come into the weekend at No. 14 in the NWCA Coaches Poll.
- Redshirt freshman Aeoden Sinclair ranks second at 184 pounds, the highest-ranked individual for Mizzou.
- Both redshirt senior Evan Bates (197) and redshirt junior Cam Steed (174) moved up one spot to No. 16 and No. 11, respectively.
PACING THE PACK
- Redshirt sophomore Jarrett Stoner passed up his teammates Bates and Sinclair to lead the squad with 14 wins so far this season. Aeoden Sinclair and Evan Bates follow close behind with 13 wins apiece.
- Sinclair has also accumulated the fewest losses with one.
- Bates tops the team with nine bonus-point wins to start the season, followed by Sinclair with eight.
- Sinclair is out in front with four falls, while Mack Mauger is close behind with three.
ALL-TIME VS. UNI
- The dual between No. 14 Missouri and No. 15 Northern Iowa will serve as the 40th meeting between the two programs.
- UNI holds the series lead over Mizzou, 22-17. The Tigers are 12-8 against the Panthers under Head Coach Brian Smith (1998-Present).
- Moreover, coach Smith is 5-4 in Cedar Falls and 9-5 in duals against Doug Schwab at UNI (2010-Present).
LAST TIME AGAINST THE PANTHERS
- No. 15 Missouri lost the conference matchup to No. 10 Northern Iowa on Nov. 26, 2024, in Hartland, Wisconsin.
- The Tigers wrestled the Panthers at Arrowhead high school, the home of two-time National Champion Keegan O'Toole.
- Mizzou earned wins at 125 from Gage Walker (4-0), Logan Gioffre at 149 (Dec. 2-1) and O'Toole at 174 (MD 14-2).

- Max Mayfield (72), Josh Edmond (69) and Evan Bates (65).
ON THE HORIZON
- The Tigers break for the holidays before returning in 2026 for Soldier Salute, Jan. 3-4 in Coralville, Iowa. The tournament will take place in Xtream Arena, with session one beginning at 10 a.m. CT on Jan. 3. All the action can be streamed on BIG+.
