The Tigers will finish their non-conference schedule Saturday
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The 10th-ranked University of Missouri wrestling team will wrestle No. 13 Arizona State on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT inside Desert Financial Arena in Tempe, Arizona. The dual will be streamed live on Pac-12 Insider.
The Tigers return to Arizona State for the first time since 2019 to close the non-conference dual schedule. Missouri (10-3, 8-1 Big 12) is 6-1 this season away from Hearnes Center.
The Matchup
Mizzou and Arizona State (8-3, 5-0 Pac-12) match up for the fourth consecutive season. In 2021, the neutral-site dual in Ames, Iowa, was canceled. In the last two meetings, the two programs are 1-1 after trading victories in the opposing arena.
The Sun Devils are 2-0 against common opponents this season, beating Oklahoma 22-12 and Virginia Tech 23-13.
The Tigers will face off against a stout lineup that includes seven top-10 opponents. The matchup of the night will come at 165 pounds as freshman Keegan O'Toole takes on No. 7 Anthony Valencia in a top-10 showdown. The other top-10 matchup will be at 197 pounds with freshman Rocky Elam set to wrestle No. 9 Kordell Norfleet.
Missouri will have ranked wrestlers in the lineup at eight weights. Following O'Toole (No. 1) and Elam (No. 5), the Tigers will also have freshman Josh Edmond (No. 21 at 149 pounds), redshirt freshman Noah Surtin (No. 13 at 125 pounds), redshirt sophomores Peyton Mocco (No. 9 at 174 pounds), Jeremiah Kent (No. 17 at 184 pounds) and Zach Elam (No. 15 at 285 pounds) and junior Jarrett Jacques (No. 22 at 157 pounds).
Storylines
- Redshirt freshman Sean Harman is listed as an option alongside Mocco at 174 pounds. Harman was named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday following his 5-4 upset against Oklahoma State's 10th-ranked Dustin Plott last Sunday. His win was the third consecutive ranked triumph.
- O'Toole will face off against Valencia in the highest-ranked matchup for him this season. The two faced off last season at the NCAA Tournament with O'Toole dominating the matchup in a 16-1 technical fall.
- Similar to O'Toole, Rocky Elam will look to beat Norfleet for the second time after winning by 9-1 major decision at the tournament in 2021.
