The Tigers will face off against the Wolverines and Cowboys Saturday evening
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The 13th-ranked University of Missouri wrestling program is set for a Big 12 tri-dual against Wyoming and Utah Valley in Orem, Utah, on Saturday. Mizzou will wrestle Wyoming first at 5 p.m. CT, followed by Utah Valley at 9 p.m. CT. Both duals will be streamed live on FloWrestling.
The Tigers will look to move to 3-0 in true road duals against Utah State and 3-1 in neutral site duals against Wyoming.
The Matchup – Wyoming
Missouri (7-3, 5-1 Big 12) will begin the evening with a familiar opponent in Wyoming. The Tigers and Cowboys will wrestle for the third consecutive season with Mizzou holding a 2-0 record over the last two meetings. The Tigers won 29-3 at home in 2021 and 22-10 during the 2019-20 season.
The dual will see three ranked matchups at 157, 184 and 197 pounds. The headline match will be at 197 pounds between fifth-ranked Rocky Elam and seventh-ranked Stephen Buchanan. Elam is 1-0 against Buchanan in his career, winning by injury default in the dual last season.
At 184 pounds, Jeremiah Kent will look to stay undefeated against Tate Samuelson after beating the Cowboys' 184-pounder twice at the NCAA tournament last season.
The third ranked matchup comes at 157 pounds with No. 21 Jarrett Jacques and No. 14 Jacob Wright.
The Tigers also line up ranked wrestlers at 125, 141 and 285 pounds while the Cowboys will also have ranked starters at 133, 165 and 174 pounds.
The Matchup – Utah Valley
Missouri will wrestle Utah Valley for the second time under head coach Brian Smith. The lone meeting between the two programs came in 2005 as the Tigers shutout the Wolverines 48-0 inside Hearnes Center.
Utah Valley (5-3, 0-2 Big 12) will wrestle for the first time since Jan. 2, following the postponement of its last five Big 12 meetings. Its competition came in a neutral-site loss to Oregon State.
The Tigers and Wolverines line up two potential ranked matchups, beginning at 125 pounds with Noah Surtin going up against Taylor LaMont. The dual will also have a ranked match at 197 pounds with All-American Rocky Elam wrestling No. 24 Evan Bockman.
The Tigers also have ranked wrestlers at 141, 149, 157, 184 and 285 pounds while the Wolverines have a third ranked wrestler at 133 pounds.
