
No. 18/19 Mizzou Softball Takes on Kansas City to Close Out Homestand

COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 18/19 Mizzou Softball will take on in-state foe Kansas City in a midweek matchup on Wednesday, April 21st at 3 p.m. CT. Mizzou leads the all-time series 52-1.
The game will be broadcast on SEC Network Plus with Nate Gatter and Ashley Moore on the call.
The Tigers have played their last seven games at Mizzou Softball Stadium. Wednesday's game will conclude the longest homestand of the season.
Mizzou is off to its best start in SEC play since 2013 with a 10-5 conference record, good enough for fourth in the conference standings.
On Tuesday, Jenna Laird was named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Week. It is the third time this season that Laird has earned Freshman of the Week honors. In the series against Mississippi State, Laird batted .667 with two doubles, two home runs and five runs batted in. In the series finale, the freshman drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth to give Mizzou the sweep. Laird is batting .472 in SEC play, which is second in the conference.
Brooke Wilmes currently holds an eight-game hitting streak. The senior surpassed 200 hits for her career with a double against LSU. She currently stands at 204 hits, which is good enough for 12th in Mizzou history. Wilmes has scored 152 runs in her career as a Tiger which is ninth-best of any Tiger. She currently sits in a tie for third in Mizzou history with 51 career doubles.
Casidy Chaumont has turned it on at the right time for Mizzou. The Louisiana native has batted .382 in SEC play with a .462 on-base percentage. Chaumont has homered in each of the last two SEC series and has driven in ten runs in 12 conference games.
Emma Nichols has been a key performer out of the bullpen for the Tigers. The sophomore is tied for first in Division I with six saves on the season. Nichols earned saves in each of Saturday's games against Mississippi State and she was credited with the win in the final game.
