STILLWATER, Okla. - Mizzou Cross Country seniors Kieran Wood (Cambridge, England) and Sarah Chapman (Maidenhead, England) are set to travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma for the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Monday, March 15. Chapman is set to run in the women's 6K at 11:50 p.m. CT. , while Wood will run in the men's 10K race set for 12:40 p.m. CT. Both races will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
"We are excited to have Sarah and Kieran representing our program on Monday at the NCAA Championships," Head Coach Marc Burns said. "They earned it through running a strong fall season culminating in their All-SEC performances in Baton Rouge. This is a great opportunity for them to compete against the best in the nation on a fantastic course."
Chapman and Wood wrapped up the 2020 cross country season back in October with the SEC Championships, where they placed third and fourth, respectively, earning All-SEC first team honors for their performance. Chapman ran the 6K in a time of 19:58.9, setting a new personal best and earning the bronze medal. Wood finished fourth in the men's 8K in a time of 23:37.2.
At the second annual Gans Creek Classic, both Chapman and Wood won their respective races and broke the previous course records set the season before. Chapman was named the USTFCCCA Division I Women's National Runner of the Week and SEC Women's Co-Runner of the Week, the first Mizzou female athlete to do so since Karissa Schweizer.
For the second consecutive season, Mizzou will send runners to the championship race. Last year, redshirt senior Thomas George (Gloucester, U.K.) finished 120th overall. Chapman will also be the first Mizzou female runner to qualify for the championships since Schweizer last did so in 2017.
