The freshman finished in third place at the Commodore Classic.
Columbia, Mo. — Mizzou Cross Country freshman William Sinclair (Tauwhere, New Zealand) earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors, announced Tuesday by the league office. Sinclair impressed in his collegiate debut, pacing the Tigers and finishing in third place at the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tennessee, with a 24:37.8 time.
Sinclair is the first Mizzou Men's Cross Country runner to earn the honor since 2013 (T.J. Carey, Oct. 22, 2013). He is also the first freshman to finish in the top-5 since Victor Mugeche placed fourth in the 2019 Missouri XC Opener (Aug. 30, 2019).
Sinclair was one of four Mizzou runners to finish in the top-10 during the opening race of the season, good for a second-place team result. Sinclair finished as the second freshman overall at the meet.
Mizzou will race next Oct. 3 at the Gans Creek Classic, the first of two home meets at Gans Creek Cross Country Course to conclude the regular season.
