- The No. 14 Mizzou gymnastics teams opens the home portion of its 2021 schedule when the team welcomes No. 4 Alabama to the Hearnes Center on Friday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. CT. The meet will be broadcast live on SEC Network + with Nate Gatter and former Tiger Bri Stephens calling the action.
Mizzou is ranked 14th in the first in-season ranking of the 2021 season after coming in at 16th in the WCGA preseason poll.
The Tigers opened 2021 with a 196.150-194.250 loss at No. 10 Georgia on Jan. 8.
Sophomore Sienna Schreiber took home the beam title in the meet against the GymDogs after a career-high 9.9 on the apparatus. It was her third career event title but first on beam. Schreiber's previous best on the event was 9.85.
Five gymnasts made their collegiate debuts in the season opener: sophomores Adalayna Hufendiek and Macy Orosco and freshmen Amaya Marshall, Sydney Schaffer and Jena Swanson.
Overall, 10 of Mizzou's 22 routines against Georgia came from gymnasts in their first collegiate action.
The 2021 SEC gymnastics season will be comprised of eight meets per school over a 10-week conference-only schedule, with the regular-season concluding with the SEC Gymnastics Championships on March 20.
Missouri sat ranked No. 14 nationally in March 2020 when the season was abruptly cut short prior to the final regular season meet. The Tigers also ended the 2020 season ranked 10th nationally on vault (49.225), 14th on beam (49.200), 18th on floor (49.290) and 24th on bars (49.110).
Mizzou will have 63 percent of routines from a year ago available for the 2021 season.
Overall, Mizzou returns 68 percent of its floor lineup, 65 percent of its vault and beam lineup and 55 percent of its bars lineup.
Head Coach Shannon Welker is in his eighth season at the helm of the Tigers. Last season, Mizzou defeated No. 11 Minnesota and No. 19 Nebraska and twice posted team scores among the top 10 in program history.

- Mizzou opened the 2021 season with a 196.150-194.250 loss to No. 10 Georgia on Jan. 8 in Athens, Ga. Sophomore Sienna Schreiber (Cumming, Ga.) claimed the beam title with a career-best 9.9.
Five different Tigers made their collegiate debuts in the meet, as the newcomers provided 10 of Mizzou's 22 routines in the meet.
Mizzou started the meet with a strong 49.025 on bars thanks to four scores of 9.8 or higher. Senior Chelsey Christensen and sophomore Macy Orosco both tallied career-bests with 9.85 to lead the squad. Sophomore Hollyn Patrick and freshman Amaya Marshall also had career-bests with identical 9.8s, while sophomore Adalayna Hufendiek went 9.725 and freshman Jena Swanson added a 9.7.
A trio of 9.7s paced the Tigers in the second rotation on vault. Junior Hannah McCrary, Marshall and Swanson all posted the score, as Missouri went 48.300 on the apparatus.
On floor in the third rotation, McCrary had a team-high 9.85 to lead the squad to a 48.825 on floor. Marshall also hit the 9.8 mark on the event, posting a 9.8, while Swanson went 9.775 and Schreiber had a 9.725.
In Mizzou's final routine of the night, Schreiber secured the beam title with a 9.9, besting her previous career-high 9.85. It marked Schreiber's third career title but her first on beam. Senior Gabrielle Gottula added a 9.775 on the event, and McCrary went 9.725.

MISSOURI RANKED 14TH IN FIRST IN-SEASON RANKING
- Mizzou sits ranked 14th in the first in-season rankings of the 2021 campaign after a 194.250 at Georgia on Jan. 8.
The Tigers also rank 10th on both bars and floor, 11th on beam and 14th on vault.
Missouri was selected 16th in the preseason poll.
NEWCOMERS MAKE IMPACT IN SEASON OPENER
- A total of five Tigers made their collegiate debuts in Mizzou's meet at Georgia on Jan. 8.
Overall, 10 of Mizzou's 22 routines against the GymDogs came from first-time gymnasts.
Sophomores Adalayna Hufendiek and Macy Orosco and freshmen Amaya Marshall, Sydney Schaffer and Jena Swanson all saw their first action in a Tiger leo during the meet.
Hufendiek did not compete as a freshman in 2020 after recovering from an injury suffered prior to her arrival in Columbia, and Orosco did not see any action during her freshman season at Alabama in 2020.
Marshall (vault, bars, floor) and Swanson (vault, bars, floor) both competed three events in the opener, while Hufendiek (vault, bars) did two and Orsoco (bars) and Schaffer (beam) each made one lineup.
TIGERS TO COMPETE IN SEC-ONLY SCHEDULE
- The Tigers, in conjunction with the Southeastern Conference, announced the 2021 schedule on Nov. 23
- The 2021 SEC gymnastics seas on will be comprised of eight meets per school over a 10-week conference-only schedule, with the regular-season concluding with the SEC Gymnastics Championships on March 20 in New Orleans.
- The decision to limit competition to conference-only opponents was based on the need for maximum flexibility in making any necessary scheduling adjustments while reacting to developments around the COVID-19 pandemic and continued advice from medical professionals.
- The schedule include s two open dates for all schools in Week five and Week 10 to allow for rescheduling of postponed events.
SCHREIBER WINS BEAM TITLE AT GEORGIA
- Sophomore Sienna Schreiber anchored Mizzou's beam lineup with a career-high 9.9 on the apparatus in the season opener at Georgia on Jan. 8.
The score was good enough to claim Schreiber's third career event title, but first on beam.
As a freshman in 2020, Schreiber also won the all-around title against Florida and the bars title at the Mardi Gras Invite.
The 9.9 bested Schreiber's previous high on the event of 9.85, which she scored twice last season.
MIZZOU SET FOR SIX NATIONALLY TELEVISED MEETS IN 2021
- Mizzou will have six nationally televised meets in 2021
- The TV lineup features five regular season meets and the 2021 SEC Championship.
- Mizzou and Georgia kickoff the SEC Network's 2021 Friday Night Heigh s schedule on Friday, Jan. 8 with a 6 p.m. CT meet in Athens, Ga.
- The Tigers then return to SEC Network for consecutive meets in late January, as the home meet against Kentucky (Jan 22) and an away contest at Florida (Jan. 29) will both be aired live on the network at 6 p.m. CT.
- The Feb. 12 and Feb. 19 meets against Auburn and Arkansas will also air live on SEC Network. Mizzou takes on Auburn at 8 p.m. CT on the 12th at the Hearnes Center and travels to Fayetteville , Ark., to take on Arkansas on Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. CT.
- Mizzou's three regular seas on meets not picked up for TV, Jan. 15 against Alabama, Feb. 26 against Georgia and March 5 at LSU, will all broadcast live on SEC Network+.
- For the sixth consecutive year, the SEC Gymnastics Championship will be telecast live, with the 2021 edition airing exclusively on SEC Network. Coverage of the afternoon session starts at 2:30 p.m. CT with the evening session beginning at 7 p.m. CT.
2020 SEASON AT A GLANCE
- The Tigers concluded the shortened 2020 season ranked 14th in the nation as it steadily climbed the ranking s as year progressed.
- The Tigers' National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 196.635 at the time the season ended was the third-best such score in program history and the team's highest since 2004.
- Over the course of the season, Mizzou defeated No. 11 Minnesota and No. 19 Nebraska and twice posted team scores among the top 10 in program history.
- Two Tigers -- Helen Hu and Sienna Schreiber -- earned All-SEC honors, as Hu claimed SEC Event Specialist of the Year honors and spots on the All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman teams, and Schreiber made the All-Freshman team.
- Hu also claimed two WCGA All-America honors, with first team accolades on beam and second team honors on bars.
- On Feb. 14 Mizzou tied it's all-time bars team score with a 49.400 at the Mardi Gras Invite, which matched the program record from the Texas Woman's Invite on March 12, 2004.
- Floor was a particular strength in 2020, especially the last six meets of the year, when Tigers averaged 49.288 over that span.
- A 196.850 at Alabama on Feb. 7 stood as the second-best road score in program history, trailing just the 197.475 set at the Texas Woman's Invite on March 12, 2004.
