COLUMBIA, Mo. - Freshman Helen Hu (Chicago, Ill.) of the No. 20 Mizzou gymnastics team was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. It marks Hu's fourth SEC weekly honor this season, as she claimed Freshman of the Week accolades on Jan. 7 and Specialist of the Week honors on Jan. 21 and Jan. 28.
Hu won the all-around and beam titles in Mizzou's meet against LSU on Feb. 21. She claimed her first career all-around title with a personal-best-tying 39.475 and won her fifth beam crown of the year with a career-best 9.975. Hu also set a personal-best on vault with a 9.825 and scored a 9.85 on bars and 9.825 on floor in the meet.
Overall, the freshman leads Mizzou with nine titles on the year, five on beam, three on bars and one in the all-around. She currently ranks fifth nationally on beam (9.930 NQS) and 12th on bars (9.900 NQS).
Mizzou will host a quad meet at Hearnes Center on February 28 in the regular season finale. The Tigers are set to take on No. 11 Minnesota, Ohio State and Lindenwood at 7 p.m. CT.
