Tigers rally to defeat Virginia Tech, fall in extra innings to No. 20 James Madison
CLEARWATER, Fla. – Mizzou Softball split Saturday's action at the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational. The Tigers (9-1) rallied from down 5-0 in the fifth inning to beat Virginia Tech, 6-5, before losing in extra innings to No. 20 James Madison, 8-7.
VIRGINIA TECH RECAP
Turning Point
For the second time in as many games, Mizzou had to overcome a multiple run deficit. Trailing 5-0 in the fifth inning, the Tigers got back to back home runs to tie the game at 5-5. Cayla Kessinger hit a three-run shot to pull within a run, while Megan Moll went yard for the first time in her career.
With the game tied, Eli Daniel came in to pitch two scoreless innings. The senior allowed two hits against the eight batters she faced.
Hannah McGivern scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth on a single from Brooke Wilmes. The ball went up the right side, giving McGivern plenty of time to cross the plate from second.
