COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 20 Mizzou gymnastics team returns home to the Hearnes Center to host No. 14 Arkansas on Friday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. CT in the annual Pink Out meet.
TIGER TIDBITS
- Mizzou is ranked 20th in the RoadtoNationals.com national rankings (based on average score) for the second straight week.
- The Tigers also rank eighth nationally on beam (49.088), 19th on floor (48.994), 20th on vault (48.925) and 25th on bars (48.831).
- Additionally, freshman Helen Hu is tied for sixth nationally on beam with an average of 9.925.
- Last time out, Missouri tallied a season-best score by more than a point but narrowly fell to No. 14 Auburn, 196.700-196.650, on Jan. 24.
- Missouri recorded season-best scores on beam (49.425), vault (49.300) and bars (49.225) at Auburn. The beam score stands as the second-highest total in program history, while the vault total is tied for sixth in the record books, and second on the event since vault start values were changed.
- Hu won the beam and bars titles on Jan. 24, thanks to scores of 9.95 and 9.925, respectively. They were her team-leading fourth and fifth titles of the season.
- Redshirt senior Morgan Porter claimed the all-around and floor crowns as well. Porter tallied a 39.425 in the all-around and a 9.9 on floor.
For the second week in a row, Hu was named Southeastern Conference Specialist of the Week. She also claimed Co-Specialist of the Week honors on Jan. 21 and the SEC Freshman of the Week on Jan. 7. - Missouri's program record 16-meet stretch with a 49 or higher on floor was snapped on Jan. 17, as the team went 48.900 on the apparatus.
- Mizzou's event scores of 49.350 on floor and 49.200 on beam on Jan. 4 mark the highest-ever for the team on the events in a season opener. Missouri's previous best season-opening floor score was 49.325 against Iowa State on Jan. 11, 2004, while the previous high on beam was 49.175 against Illinois and Ball State on Jan. 6, 2017.
- Mizzou returns seven gymnasts from last year's team and welcomes eight newcomers to the roster.
- Head Coach Shannon Welker is in his seventh season at the helm of the Tigers. Last season, Mizzou knocked off four top 25 teams, including a win over No. 10 Kentucky and a tie with No. 7 Michigan. The Tigers also recorded the second-highest beam score in program history (49.425), the sixth (49.425) and seventh (49.400) best floor scores and the ninth-best vault total (49.275) over the course of the campaign.
LAST TIME OUT
- Redshirt senior Morgan Porter and freshman Helen Hu each won two titles as No. 14 Auburn squeaked by No. 20 Mizzou, 196.700-196.650, on Jan. 24 in Auburn, Ala. The score was a full point better than Mizzou's previous season-high of 195.600.
- Hu tallied scores of 9.95 on beam and 9.925 on bars to take home her fourth and fifth event titles of the season, and Porter tallied a 9.9 on to win floor and a season-best 49.425 for the all-around win.
- Freshman Sienna Schreiber took second in the all-around with a career-best 39.375.
- Mizzou opened the meet with a 49.225 on bars, which was a season-best and the highest score for the team since a 49.275 on the event against Florida on March 3, 2018. Hu won her second-straight bars title after a 9.925 in the anchor position. Senior Aspen Tucker led off the rotation with a 9.85, while Porter notched the same score. Junior Chelsey Christensen tied her career-mark with a 9.8, and sophomore Alisa Sheremeta went 9.8 as well.
- A 49.300 in the second rotation kept the visiting Tigers right in the meet. The team tally tied the sixth-best score in program history and was the best on the event since Mizzou set the program record with a 49.425 on Jan. 15, 2017. The Tigers notched three career-bests in the rotation, with 9.9s from sophomore Hannah McCrary and Schreiber and a 9.85 from freshman Kambrie Brandt. Both Tucker and Porter added 9.825s and junior Gabrielle Gottula went 9.8.
- Porter paced the visiting Tigers with a 9.9 to claim the floor crown as the team went 48.700 overall on the event. The redshirt senior's score tied her season-best was her fourth of 9.85 or better in four meets this season. Schreiber and Gottula both tallied 9.85s, which was a personal-best for Schreiber, and McCrary added a 9.8.
- The second-highest beam score in program history closed out the night with a 49.425 on the apparatus. Hu tied her career-high with a 9.95 for her fourth score of 9.9 or higher on the event this season. Gottula also tied her career-mark with a 9.925. Porter, Schreiber and McCrary all tallied 9.85s, which tied Schreiber's best and set a new career-high for McCrary.

- Mizzou erupted for a season-best high 196.650 in a narrow loss to No. 14 Auburn on Jan. 24.
- The team score was a season-high by over a point.
- The Tigers also tallied season-bests on beam (49.425), vault (49.300) and bars (49.225).
- The beam total of 49.425 stands as the second-highest score on the event in program history, behind just a 49.500.
- The 49.300 on vault is tied for the sixth-best and is the second-best score since vault start values changed prior to the 2016 season.
HU NAMED SEC SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK...AGAIN
- For the second week in a row, Hu was named the Southeastern Conference Specialist of the Week. She also claimed Co-Specialist of the Week honors on Jan. 21 and was the SEC Freshman of the Week on Jan. 7.
- Her three SEC weekly accolades already tie her for the most-ever by a Mizzou gymnast, matching former Tiger Britney Ward.
- Hu claimed her honor after winning the beam and bars titles at Auburn with scores of 9.95 and 9.925, respectively, for her team-leading fourth and fifth wins of the year.
- The freshman is tied for sixth nationally on beam with an average score of 9.925. In four college meets, she has scores of 9.95, 9.95, 9.9 and 9.9 on beam.
- She also stands as only the fourth Tiger to ever go 9.95 on bars, joining Jodie Heinicka, Alisha Robinson and Sarah Shire, and was the first to do it since the 2010 season.
FRESHMEN MAKING THEIR IMPACT
- Four meets into the 2020 season, Mizzou's freshmen class has made an impact
- So far, freshmen have made up 33.3 percent of the team's routines, with 32 of the 96 total coming from the class.
- Overall, the 32 routines by the freshmen led the team, followed by 26 from the senior class, 21 from the sophomore class and 17 from the junior class.
TIGERS GO BIG ON BEAM AT AUBURN
- Mizzou closed the Auburn meet with a 49.425 on beam in the final rotation.
- The score stands as the second-highest score on the event in program history, behind only a 49.500 against Kentucky on March 10, 2017.
- The Tigers' top three beam scores have all come in the last four seasons under the direction of associate head coach Casey Jo MacPherson.
- Mizzou's 49.425 was highlighted by a 9.95 from freshman Helen Hu in the anchor position and a 9.925 by junior Gabrielle Gottula.
PORTER CLAIMS TWO EVENT TITLES
- Redshirt Morgan Porter won the all-around and floor crowns in Mizzou's meet at Auburn on Jan. 24.
- She tallied a 39.425 in the all-around to win that title, to go along with scores of 9.9 on floor, 9.85 on bars and beam, and 9.825 on vault.
- The wins were her second and third of the 2020 season, as she also won floor in the season opener against Illinois and SEMO.
- Porter owns a 9.881 average on floor this season, with two scores of 9.9, one 9.875 and one 9.85.
