Tigers and Illini Will Play at Lindenwood
STORYLINES
- Mizzou Softball will face off against border rival Illinois on Tuesday, as the two sides will meet up in St. Charles, Mo., for a doubleheader.
- The Tigers currently own an 8-3 all-time advantage over the Illini, but Illinois took both games in the doubleheader last season.
- Mizzou is coming off of the Mizzou Tournament, in which the Tigers went 2-2.
- The Tigers started and finished strong, beating Pitt in game one, 9-2, while run-ruling Oregon in the finale, 8-0.
- The Black & Gold had a rough day two, though, falling to Pitt and to Oregon in a doubleheader.
NO-NO-NORMAN
- In the final game of the tournament, redshirt senior P Madi Norman threw the 41st no-hitter in program history.
- It was also the first solo no-no of Norman's career, though she was the starter in Mizzou's combined no-hitter vs. New Mexico State back at the Mary Nutter (Feb. 23).
- Norman's solo no-no was the first for Mizzou since 2017, and the first against a power-five opponent since Chelsea Thomas no-hit Tennessee back in 2013.
WERT ALERT
- Sophomore 3B Kimberly Wert added two more homers to her season tally over the weekend, and she now has 15 this season. The program record of 20 was set by Amanda Renth back in 2008.
- Wert is one of just 12 players in the country with 15 or more long balls so far this season. She is one of six SEC players on that list.
- Wert is the first Tiger with 15+ homers in a season since Chloe Rathburn had 15 and Emily Crane had 17 back in 2016.
- Her second homer of the weekend, a grand slam vs. Oregon, was the first grand slam for Mizzou since opening weekend, when freshman DP Geana Torres smashed one against ASU (Feb. 8).
SCOUTING ILLINOIS
- Like Mizzou, Illinois is one of college softball's biggest surprises, as the Illini currently sit at 24-11 with a 4-5 record in conference play.
- The Illini currently have three ranked wins, beating Kentucky once while beating Wisconsin twice.
- Illinois is led by sophomore C Bella Loya, who is hitting .410 with 11 homers so far this season. She also leads the team with 48 hits so far this season.
- Sydney Sickels leads the Illini bullpen, pitching a team-high 105.2 innings. She also owns a team-best 3.11 ERA.
