COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Track & Field continues its outdoor season as it hosts the Tom Botts Invitational, April 19-20 at Audrey J. Walton Stadium. Mizzou will have more than 50 athletes in competition, which begins Friday with the men's hammer throw at 3:30 p.m. CT, followed by the start of the track events at 7:00 p.m. CT. Saturday's events begin at 11:30 a.m. CT with the women's pole vault, followed by the continuation of the track events with the women's 4x100m relay at 1:00 p.m. CT.
Prior to the meet's final event, the seniors of the Mizzou Track & Field team will be recognized at 3:25 p.m. CT. Teams attending the Tom Botts Invitational include Missouri State, Northern Iowa Saint Louis, SIU Edwardsville and Western Illinois. Live results will be available through PTTiming.com.
For the men, freshman Roberto Vilches (Mexico City, Mexico) will be competing in the high jump as he looks to improve upon his mark of 2.27m (7-5.25), which currently has him in the No. 2 spot on the Mizzou top-10 list. Vilches's jump is currently the best in the NCAA this outdoor season. Redshirt sophomore Ja'Mari Ward (Cahokia, Ill.) will be competing in the long jump, as he looks to improve on his season-best mark of 7.90m (25-11), set at the Texas Relays (March 30), which currently ranks second in the NCAA West Region.
For the women, redshirt sophomore Sophia Rivera (Brentwood, Mo.) will compete in the javelin as she will be looking to improve upon her school record mark of 55.73m (182-10) that she set last time out at the John McDonnell Invitational (April 12). Rivera's javelin throw mark is currently fifth-best in the nation. Redshirt senior Gabi Jacobs (Bloomington, Ill.) will be competing at Walton Stadium for the final time in her career, as she is set to compete in the discus and shot put. In the discus, Jacobs currently holds the Tom Botts Invitational and Walton Stadium records with marks of 58.11m (190-8) and 59.69m (195-10), respectively.
In addition to this weekend's home meet, Mizzou will have four athletes competing in distance races at the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University. Among the group running out west will be junior Kieran Wood, Cambridge, U.K.), who will be making his outdoor debut in the 1500m run.
