STORYLINES
- Mizzou is headed to Oxford, Miss., to face No. 17 Ole Miss for its third road SEC series of the season.
- The Tigers and Rebels are separated by a game and half in the league standings, as Ole Miss is currently 7-4 in the SEC, while Mizzou is 6-6.
- Mizzou currently owns an 11-3 advantage over the Rebels. However, Mizzou lost its last series against them, dropping two out of three in Columbia back in 2017 (May 5 - 7).
- The Tigers took both games of a midweek doubleheader from Illinois on Tuesday.
- Both games were defensive slugfests, as Mizzou shutout the Illini in game one, 2-0, and then squeaked out a 3-2 win in game two.
- Mizzou hosted the Mizzou Tournament this past weekend, going 2-2 with a win and a loss over both Pitt and Oregon.
TIGERS TOPPLE THOSE ON TOP
- When it comes to beating top-10 teams, Mizzou is the best in the SEC.
- The Tigers are the only team in the conference with more than five wins against teams ranked in the top-10, as they have won six games against top-10 opponents.
- All six of those wins have come against conference foes.
- It started when Mizzou took two out of three from Georgia, who was fifth in the RPI at the time.
- The Tigers then swept Kentucky on the road. The Wildcats were ranked seventh in the RPI.
- Mizzou also nabbed a 5-4 victory over then-No. 5 Tennessee.
NO-NO-NORMAN
- In the final game of the Mizzou Tournament, redshirt senior P Madi Norman threw the 41st No-hitter in program history.
- It was also the first solo no-no of Norman's career, though she was the starter in Mizzou's combined no-hitter vs. New Mexico State back at the Mary Nutter (Feb. 23).
- Norman's solo no-no was the first for Mizzou since 2017, and the first against a power-five opponent since Chelsea Thomas no-hit Tennessee back in 2013.
- Norman was nearly as good in game one against Illinois, as she earned her fourth complete game shutout this season, going the full seven with four strikeouts.
- Norman has now thrown 12 straight innings without allowing a run.
WERT ALERT
- Sophomore 3B Kimberly Wert added two more homers to her season tally over the weekend, and she now has 15 on the year. The program record of 20 was set by Amanda Renth back in 2008.
- Wert is one of just 12 players in the country with 15 or more long balls so far this season. She is one of six SEC players on that list.
- Wert is the first Tiger with 15+ homers in a season since Chloe Rathburn had 15 and Emily Crane had 17 back in 2016.
- Her second homer of the weekend, a grand slam vs. Oregon, was the first grand slam for Mizzou since opening weekend, when freshman DP Geana Torres smashed one against ASU (Feb. 8).
- Wert became just the second Tiger this season with multiple homers with her two-homer game against Wichita State. Torres also had two against Troy (2/15/19).
SOME ELI-TE CLOSING
- Junior P Eli Daniel has become Coach Anderson's go-to closer since SEC play began.
- Daniel now has four saves this season, becoming the first Mizzou pitcher with that many since Paige Lowary back in 2015.
- Daniel earned her first two career saves in back-to-back SEC games, helping Mizzou hold off Kentucky (3/24) and then preserving a one-run lead in the bottom of the seventh against Tennessee (3/31).
- Daniel has been just as effective in relief during midweek games, as her two most recent saves came in game one against Wichita State and game two against Illinois.
SCOUTING OLE MISS
- Ole Miss has had a successful season, currently owning an overall record of 28-10. They are 7-4 in SEC play, good for fourth in the conference.
- The Rebels are coming off two series wins over top-25 opponents, as they took two of three each against No. 6 Florida and No. 22 Kentucky.
- The last time the teams played, back in 2017, Ole Miss took two out of three from the Tigers in CoMo.
- The Rebels have recorded 85 stolen bases this year on 105 attempts, second among all SEC teams. Ole Miss trails only Alabama.
- Ole Miss boasts a team ERA of 2.12, also second among SEC teams. They trail Florida, who has an SEC-best ERA of 1.76.
- Ole Miss has given up only 97 runs, the third least in the SEC, in all games this season. They've allowed just 2.62 runs per game.
- The Rebels offense is led Senior OF Kylan Becker, as she currently boasts a batting average of .471, which is good for third in the SEC.
- Sophomore 1B Abbey Latham, sophomore UT Jessica Puk and senior RHP/1B Brittany Finney have each added some power to the Ole Miss offense, as they have drilled 7, 8 and 7 home runs, respectively.
- The Rebel 'pen is led by junior LHP Molly Jacobsen and senior RHP Brittany Finney, who each have recorded 10 wins on the season.
